Job Description: At Surma, we believe in making everyday beautiful through minimal and thoughtful design, pure fabrics, and clothing that moves with the Indian woman. We are currently seeking a Senior Fashion Designer who can bring both creative vision and structured thinking to the team. As a Senior Fashion Designer, you will be responsible for leading the design journey from concept to rack across contemporary collections. Your role will involve researching and forecasting trends in silhouettes, fabrics, and colors that are relevant and wearable for the everyday Indian woman. In this position, you will bring structure to creativity by driving seasonal calendars that integrate design thinking with business timelines. You will also be required to create detailed tech packs to clearly translate design intent for sampling and production teams. Additionally, mentoring a small team of designers and interns may be part of your responsibilities in the future. Collaboration with cross-functional teams such as sourcing, merchandising, and marketing will be essential to ensure aesthetic and commercial alignment. Furthermore, you will play a crucial role in shaping the brand voice through inputs in campaign storytelling, shoot styling, and lookbooks. The ideal candidate for this role will have at least 6 years of experience in designing Indian contemporary wear for an urban audience. Understanding the needs of the Indian woman and designing with her in mind is key. A successful candidate will need to balance both craft and commerce, thinking like a designer and a brand-builder. Strong emphasis on textile and surface exploration, prioritizing wearability and fit, is essential. The ability to translate moodboards into market-ready garments with a distinct point of view is highly desirable. Staying updated on trends, fabric innovations, and consumer shifts is a must. Nice-to-have qualifications include experience working with fabrics like cotton, linen, or silk, exposure to e-commerce styling, content, or campaign ideation, familiarity with design software such as Illustrator, Photoshop, or CLO 3D, and Excel proficiency. While not mandatory, having prior experience leading or mentoring a design team would be advantageous.
