Job Description: EHS Officer Company: Durga Processors Pvt. Ltd. Location: Surat, Gujarat Department: Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Reports to: Factory Manager / Plant Head Dotted Line Reporting: Director / CEO Job Summary We are seeking a diligent and qualified EHS Officer to join our textile processing facility in Surat. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring all environment, health, and safety programs and policies. You will ensure full compliance with all applicable legal and statutory requirements, particularly The Factories Act, 1948, and Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) norms. Your primary goal is to foster a culture of safety, prevent accidents, and ensure environmental sustainability in our operations. Key Responsibilities and Duties 1. Safety Management & Best Practices · Risk Assessment: Conduct and regularly review Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments (HIRA), Job Safety Analysis (JSA), and HAZOP studies for all plant activities. · Equipment & Systems: Ensure all fire and safety equipment, including various types of fire extinguishers and alarm systems, are maintained, inspected, and fully functional, meeting all technical parameters. · Emergency Response: Develop, maintain, and test emergency preparedness and evacuation plans. Conduct regular fire and emergency drills. · Work Permit System: Implement and manage the work permit system for high-risk activities (e.g., hot work, confined space entry, height work). · Inspections & Audits: Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of premises and personnel to identify non-conformities and enforce safety regulations. · Accident Management: Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near-misses; prepare detailed investigation reports with root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA). 2. Health & Occupational Wellness · Occupational Health: Identify and mitigate occupational health hazards specific to textile processing, such as chemical exposure, noise, heat stress, and cotton dust. · Ergonomics: Promote ergonomic best practices at workstations to prevent musculoskeletal disorders. · PPE Management: Oversee the planning, procurement, distribution, and proper usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) across all departments. · Welfare Facilities: Ensure compliance with statutory welfare provisions, including the availability of potable drinking water, canteen hygiene, and first-aid facilities. · Medical Coordination: Act as the primary coordinator with designated hospitals for immediate medical attention in case of any workplace injury or emergency. 3. Environmental Management · Statutory Clearances: Manage the process of obtaining and renewing Environmental Clearances (EC), Consent to Establish (CTE), and Consent to Operate (CTO) from GPCB and MoEF&CC. · ETP & ZLD Management: Oversee the operation of the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) and/or Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) system to ensure all treated water parameters comply strictly with GPCB norms. · Waste Management: Implement and manage a comprehensive waste management program in compliance with Hazardous and Other Wastes (Management and Transboundary Movement) Rules. · Monitoring & Reporting: Monitor all environmental parameters (air, water, noise) as per consent conditions and submit all required statutory returns and compliance reports to authorities in a timely manner. 4. Legal & Statutory Compliance · The Factories Act, 1948: Ensure 100% compliance with The Factories Act and the Gujarat Factories Rules. This includes maintaining all statutory registers, records, and submitting required reports. · Liaison: Act as the company's representative and liaison with government bodies such as the Inspector of Factories, GPCB, and the local Fire Department. · Safety Committee: Organize and conduct the quarterly Safety Committee meetings in conjunction with the HR department as mandated by law. · Record Keeping: Maintain a robust system for all EHS-related documentation, permits, and compliance records for internal and external audits. 5. Training & Awareness · Induction & Ongoing Training: Conduct mandatory HSE induction training for all new employees and regular refresher training for all staff on topics like fire safety, emergency response, chemical handling, etc. · Safety Campaigns: Organize and drive safety awareness campaigns and programs to promote a positive safety culture throughout the organization. · Reporting: Maintain a daily MIS of all EHS activities and report to the department head. Prepare and communicate training schedules to all HODs. Qualifications & Experience · Required Education: o Bachelor's degree in Engineering (B.E./B.Tech) in Chemical, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering OR a B.Sc. in Chemistry/Physics. o Mandatory: Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Safety (PGDIS) from a recognized institute. · Experience: o 3-5 years of proven EHS experience, preferably within a textile processing, chemical, or similar manufacturing industry. o Hands-on experience in managing ETP/ZLD operations and GPCB compliances. · Knowledge: o In-depth knowledge of The Factories Act, 1948, The Environment Protection Act, 1986, and associated state/national rules. o Familiarity with standards like OHSAS 18001/ISO 45001 and ISO 14001. Required Skills & Abilities · Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Gujarati. · Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of the organization. · Attention to Detail: Meticulous and observant with a strong focus on compliance and safety protocols. · Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for incident investigation and risk mitigation. · Ethical Conduct: High level of integrity and a positive, proactive attitude towards EHS matters.
