DriveWorks Applications & Design Engineer

At Invenio were looking for an Applications & Design Engineer with skills in both Engineering and Programming to specialise in supporting DriveWorks. DriveWorks is a business automation software package which also acts as an add-in to SOLIDWORKS and can be used to automate the design process.

It relies heavily on a ‘rules engine’ which is much the same as writing basic rules in Excel, but for complex implementations programming concepts such as variables, loops and state start to play an important role.

DriveWorks can be used to generate, store and manipulate data, and many of our customers use DriveWorks to do things like extract costing information from an external database to calculate a live price. In turn, understanding data modelling and data structures is also essential for this role.

You’ll also need to be a strong team player, someone who can be relied on to take ownership of their work and can communicate well with clients and understand their requirements.

Essential

• Good understanding of Mechanical Design principles
• Good understanding of Digital manufacturing (e.g. typical types of machinery used, file types required)
• Strong understanding of parametric modelling and equation-driven models using SOLIDWORKS
• Can build clear and organised Parts and Assemblies in SOLIDWORKS
• Strong understanding of Weldments and Sheet metal
• Understanding of file-naming, file structuring and the impacts this has on an organisation
• Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of programming concepts, ideally will have created SOLIDWORKS Macros using VBA or other languages, and have some exposure to writing code.
• Good understanding of Excel and tabulated data
• Experience working directly with clients

Advantageous

• Experience with DriveWorks
• Direct experience with Programming (e.g. Web development)
• Understanding of Microsoft SQL Server
• Understanding of data structures – Tabulated data, objects, nested data etc.
• Experience building out UI designs
• Experience with Mesh-based 3D Modelling (e.g. Blender)
• Comfortable working with APIs and using API
