Your responsibilities include performing venipuncture to collect blood donations, processing blood donations to separate components, conducting pre-transfusion compatibility testing, screening for infectious diseases, maintaining quality control procedures, monitoring inventory levels, documenting donor information and test results, maintaining equipment, assisting in donor recruitment efforts, following safety protocols for infection control, and adhering to regulatory guidelines. You must possess a Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Biomedical Science, or a related field. Certification or licensure as a Medical Laboratory Technologist or Blood Bank Technician is preferred. Strong knowledge of blood banking principles, practices, and regulatory requirements is required. Proficiency in blood typing, cross-matching, and serological testing techniques is essential. Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work under pressure are necessary. Effective communication skills and professionalism in interactions with donors, patients, and healthcare professionals are vital. Commitment to upholding ethical standards, confidentiality, and patient safety is expected. Blood bank technicians typically work in laboratory settings within hospitals, blood donation centers, or transfusion services.
