Front Desk Management – Greet patients, check them in/out, maintain a welcoming environment. Billing & Payments – Handle payments, issue receipts, manage insurance claims & pre-authorisations. Records Management – Maintain patient files (paper/electronic), update demographic & medical history forms. Communication – Answer phone calls, emails, text reminders; follow up for recalls or pending treatments. Coordination – Liaise between dentist, dental assistant, lab, and patients for smooth workflow. Compliance – Maintain confidentiality (HIPAA/Indian regulations), ensure consent forms are signed. Inventory of Office Supplies – Track and order stationery & front desk materials. Role of a Dental Assistant (Clinical support inside operatory + some admin help) Main Duties Chairside Assistance – Prepare operatory before treatment, pass instruments, suction, mix materials. Patient Preparation – Seat and drape patient, explain procedures, ensure comfort. Instrument Care – Clean, sterilise, and arrange instruments & trays. Radiography – Take intraoral X-rays (if certified) and develop or upload them to software. Lab Work – Pour models, trim casts, send/receive lab cases. Infection Control – Disinfect surfaces, manage biohazard waste, maintain asepsis protocols. Inventory Control – Monitor & reorder dental materials. Post-op Instructions – Give instructions to patients after treatment as directed by dentist. Documentation – Assist in charting procedures or updating notes in software.
