As a Police Officer at California State University Maritime Academy, you will work under the general supervision of the Sergeant to independently perform a variety of general law enforcement and patrol duties. Your responsibilities will include protecting students, faculty, staff, campus visitors, property, and facilities from accidents, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry. Enforcing laws, traffic, and parking regulations, issuing citations for violations within department jurisdictions, apprehending violators, making arrests, and appearing in court as required will also be part of your role. To qualify for this position, you must have a High School diploma or equivalent, graduation from a Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) academy, a valid California Driver's License, and working knowledge of current criminal codes, investigation techniques, and law enforcement methods. You should possess the ability to quickly learn and apply campus rules and regulations, exercise good judgment, think and act decisively in emergency situations, communicate effectively with diverse populations, and work both independently and as part of a team. Preferred qualifications include prior law enforcement agency experience, experience in a college or university setting, and an Associates degree or higher. Successful completion of a physical agility test, oral interview, written examination, comprehensive background investigation, physical examination, psychological examination, and drug screening is required for this role.
