A Pharmaceutical Business Development Manager (BDM) focuses on expanding a company's international market reach, particularly through deemed exports, by conducting market research, identifying new partnerships, developing business strategies, and negotiating contracts for regulatory and non-regulatory markets. Key responsibilities include building relationships with stakeholders, ensuring regulatory compliance, collaborating with internal teams, and driving growth through strategic alliances and client acquisition. Core Responsibilities Market Analysis & Strategy: Conduct thorough market research to identify emerging opportunities, understand regulatory landscapes, and analyze competitor activities in target international markets. New Business Development: Proactively identify and secure new clients and business opportunities aligned with the company's objectives, focusing on areas like Contract Manufacturing Organization (CMO) or Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) services. Strategic Partnerships & Alliances: Develop and maintain strong, long-term relationships with potential and existing partners, distributors, healthcare professionals, and regulatory authorities to foster strategic alliances and collaborations. Negotiation & Contracts: Lead negotiations for complex commercial agreements, contracts, and long-term manufacturing collaborations, ensuring profitability, regulatory compliance, and intellectual property (IP) considerations are addressed. Regulatory Compliance & Approvals: Oversee and ensure compliance with international regulations and standards, and facilitate the process of obtaining regulatory approvals for new products in key markets. Internal Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams, such as marketing, regulatory affairs, R&D, and sales, to develop tailored solutions and ensure successful execution of business development initiatives. Performance Monitoring & Reporting: Develop key performance indicators (KPIs), monitor business development activities, and provide regular reports on progress and outcomes to senior management. Required Qualifications & Skills Education: A Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy, Life Sciences, or a related field; an MBA or post-graduate degree in Marketing or International Business is often preferred. [2, 3] Experience: Proven experience in pharmaceutical business development, with a strong track record in client acquisition and managing international markets. Experience in a CMO/CDMO environment is a significant advantage for some roles. Skills: Strong negotiation, communication, and presentation skills. Strategic thinking and analytical capabilities. Ability to analyze market data and develop actionable strategies. Familiarity with pharmaceutical regulations and compliance. Excellent relationship-building and stakeholder management skills. Strong organizational and project management skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM software. Willingness to travel internationally as required.
