The Role We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior DB2 Mainframe System Programmer to manage and support our DB2 for z/OS environments. This role involves advanced system programming, performance tuning, and infrastructure support for mission-critical mainframe systems. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in DB2 internals, z/OS system architecture, and enterprise-level database management. Key Responsibilities: Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain DB2 for z/OS subsystems and related tools. Perform system-level troubleshooting, performance tuning, and capacity planning. Manage DB2 system parameters, buffer pools, and workload management settings. Support disaster recovery planning and execution, including backup and recovery strategies. Collaborate with application DBAs, developers, and infrastructure teams to ensure optimal DB2 performance and availability. Implement and maintain DB2 security, auditing, and compliance controls. Monitor system health using SMF, RMF, and DB2 performance tools (e.g., OMEGAMON, MainView). Participate in change management, incident response, and root cause analysis. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior system programmers. Stay current with IBM mainframe technologies, DB2 enhancements, and industry best practices. Required Skills and Experience: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field. 8+ years of experience in DB2 for z/OS system programming in large enterprise environments. Strong knowledge of z/OS, JES2, SMP/E, TSO/ISPF, and JCL. Experience with DB2 utilities, catalog/directory management, and subsystem tuning. Proficiency in REXX, CLIST, and automation scripting. Familiarity with IBM tools such as DB2 Admin Tool, DB2 Query Monitor, and IBM Data Server Manager. Expertise in data mining, data storage and Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) processes. Experience in data pipelines development and tooling, e.g., Glue, Databricks, Synapse, or Dataproc. Experience with both relational and NoSQL databases, PostgreSQL, DB2, MongoDB. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, while maintaining a high level of attention to detail. Communication Skills: Must be able to communicate with both technical and non-technical colleagues, to derive technical requirements from business needs and problems Preferred Skills and Experience: Experience working as a Data Engineer and/or in cloud modernization. Experience in Data Modelling, to create conceptual model of how data is connected and how it will be used in business processes. Professional certification, e.g., Open Certified Technical Specialist with Data Engineering Specialization. Cloud platform certification, e.g., AWS Certified Data Analytics - Specialty, Elastic Certified Engineer, Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer, or Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate. Understanding of social coding and Integrated Development Environments, e.g., GitHub and Visual Studio. Degree in a scientific discipline, such as Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Information Technology. IBM Certified System Programmer - DB2 for z/OS. Experience with DB2 data sharing and Parallel Sysplex environments. Exposure to DevOps practices and mainframe modernization initiatives. Knowledge of RACF and mainframe security administration.
