Database Migration Specialist (MySQL to MongoDB)

As a Database Migration Specialist, you will be responsible for leading a one-time migration of logistics data from a MySQL database (phpMyAdmin SQL dump, ~60MB) to MongoDB. Your role will require hands-on experience with both relational (SQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB) systems, strong data transformation skills, and a practical mindset to ensure data integrity, performance, and reliability throughout the migration process. Your responsibilities will include analyzing the existing MySQL schema and logistics data structure, planning and executing the data migration, designing and implementing data mapping for MongoDB's document model, deciding on the appropriate migration approach, performing necessary data transformations, running test migrations to validate the approach, ensuring data quality and integrity in MongoDB post-migration, optimizing MongoDB collections and indexes, and documenting migration steps while providing guidance for ongoing MongoDB best practices. To qualify for this role, you should have proven experience in migrating data between SQL databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server) and MongoDB, a strong understanding of relational database design and NoSQL/document-oriented modeling, hands-on experience with MySQL export tools and MongoDB tools, familiarity with data ETL scripting, knowledge of data transformation, experience in ensuring data quality and validation in migrations, as well as good communication skills and the ability to produce clear documentation. Nice-to-have qualifications include familiarity with migration tools such as Mongify, Studio 3T SQL Migration, or MongoDB Relational Migrator, experience in logistics or ERP domain data structures, knowledge of ETL platforms, and experience with cloud database services.
