Database Specialist (Data Migration)

Key Responsibilities

• Extract and export customer data from legacy databases (Db2, IMS, ADABAS, IDMS).
• Implement taxonomy/code changes in migrated mainframe code.
• Migrate legacy database files to PostgreSQL in Linux and Windows cloud environments.
• Collaborate with Project Managers and Implementation Engineers to interpret and map customer data.
• Partner with the Sales Team to analyze prospective customer data and assist in pricing quotes.
• Validate and reconcile data in both source and destination systems.
• Design and implement transformation methods to optimize migration processes.
• Provide technical expertise and best practices for migration strategies.
• Support team members in achieving deliverables and meeting project deadlines.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

• Advanced expertise in

  PostgreSQL

  (required).
• Strong experience with

  SQL, Mainframe DB2, IMS, VSAM, ADABAS, IDMS

  .
• Proven track record in

  mainframe-to-Postgres/SQL Server migrations

  .
• Strong scripting language knowledge (preferred).
• Excellent communication (verbal & written) and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong organizational skills with effective time management.
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex data-related issues.

Education & Experience

• Bachelors degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).

• 5+ years

  of experience in

  data migration

  with PostgreSQL in complex environments.
• Strong knowledge of

  Windows and Linux operating systems

  .
• Understanding of

  zOS and/or Unisys-based database systems

  .
• Experience with

  Windows Server

  and SQL-based database solutions in cloud environments.
• Intermediate or advanced knowledge of

  networking, hardware, operating systems, databases, remote connectivity, and security

  .
