The QS Dev team is a specialized technology group that develops and supports the computing infrastructure powering the firms quantitative trading and research . The team designs and maintains a range of core systems, including HPC schedulers , service managers , and a language-agnostic package, container, and environment manager —serving both on-premises and cloud-based compute environments . Key Responsibilities Design, build, and maintain high-performance compute and infrastructure solutions supporting the firm’s trading and research functions. Develop and enhance core platforms such as HPC schedulers , service managers , and package/environment management tools . Collaborate with quantitative researchers , Quant Systems , and engineering teams to gather requirements and deliver scalable, reliable solutions . Research and implement new technologies, frameworks, and optimizations to improve system performance, efficiency, and reliability. Troubleshoot and resolve issues across on-premises and cloud-based environments . Contribute to automation and process improvements to enhance productivity and reduce operational risk. Maintain comprehensive documentation for designs, best practices, and operational procedures. Required Qualifications Strong expertise in Nix: Nix expressions, Nixpkgs, flakes, overlays, and advanced dependency management. Elite Linux proficiency: Deep command-line expertise and fluency in filesystems, process management, networking, and kernel concepts. Programming experience: Advanced skills in Go, Rust, or Python , with additional comfort in shell scripting and automation . Backend systems experience: Minimum 2 years designing and operating large-scale or mission-critical systems. Database skills: Experience with PostgreSQL , MySQL , or similar. Observability tools: Hands-on experience with Prometheus , OpenTelemetry , or similar monitoring/tracing systems. Security awareness: Strong understanding of system hardening, infrastructure security , and compliance-focused development . Distributed systems: Knowledge of event-driven/messaging systems such as Kafka. Excellent collaboration and communication skills with a proactive and problem-solving mindset. Preferred Qualifications Contributions to open-source Nix projects or similar ecosystems. Familiarity with containers (Docker, Podman) and cross-platform packaging. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Operations Manager to join our Systems team at D. E. Shaw India, Hyderabad. This leadership role will oversee Network Operations Center (NOC), Data Center (DC), Audio-Visual (AV), Unified Communications (UC), and IT Finance functions. The primary focus will be on implementing and optimizing operational processes, enhancing service quality, and driving efficiency across these critical areas. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical foundation, exceptional people management skills, and the ability to work cross-functionally in a global technology environment. Key Responsibilities: Oversee day-to-day operations across NOC, Data Center, AV, UC, and IT Finance teams. Ensure operational performance and compliance with defined KPIs and SLAs. Lead data center operations, including STPI/SEZ compliance, vendor and contract management, inventory control, and budget management. Manage 24x7 NOC operations, including METIS alert monitoring, incident response, and link administration. Collaborate with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and AV teams in India and NYC to ensure seamless global operations. Partner with global AV and SysTech teams to deliver innovative audiovisual solutions aligned with business needs. Define, monitor, and report operational metrics to drive performance and maintain service quality. Identify process gaps, develop documentation standards, and implement process improvements and automation initiatives. Manage relationships with external vendors and service providers to ensure optimal service delivery. Drive continuous improvement through data-driven analysis and performance insights. Qualifications and Experience: Education: Bachelors degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. Experience: 12–15 years of relevant experience in IT operations or infrastructure management within large, global organizations. Proven track record in managing NOC, data center, and AV operations. Strong expertise in project management, incident management, and IT service management (ITSM). Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing teams across functional areas. Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Certifications such as ITIL, PMP, or related credentials are preferred.
