Consultant Gastroenterologist

Key Responsibilities:

1. Clinical Care

• Diagnose and manage a wide range of gastrointestinal (GI), hepatic, and pancreatic disorders.
• Conduct thorough patient evaluations, review medical histories, and perform physical examinations.
• Prescribe appropriate medical treatments and monitor progress.
• Provide consultation and follow-up care for outpatients and inpatients.
• Collaborate with other medical specialists in the management of complex cases.

2. Diagnostic and Therapeutic Procedures

• Perform endoscopic and other GI procedures including:
• Upper GI Endoscopy (EGD)
• Colonoscopy and Sigmoidoscopy
• Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)
• ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography)
• Capsule Endoscopy
• Polypectomy and Biopsy
• Ensure adherence to infection control and safety protocols in the endoscopy unit.
• Interpret endoscopic, radiologic, and laboratory results accurately.

3. Patient Education and Counseling

• Educate patients and families about diagnosis, treatment plans, dietary modifications, and preventive care.
• Counsel patients on managing chronic digestive conditions and lifestyle-related GI issues.
• Maintain compassionate and professional communication at all times.

4. Academic and Research Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and postgraduate medical students.
• Conduct clinical demonstrations and academic discussions.
• Participate in departmental research, clinical trials, and publications.
• Attend and present at CMEs, conferences, and workshops.

5. Administrative Duties

• Maintain accurate medical documentation and patient records.
• Supervise nursing and technical staff in the gastroenterology department.
• Participate in hospital quality assurance, audits, and infection control programs.
• Contribute to departmental planning and development of GI services.

Educational Qualifications:

• MBBS degree recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
• MD / DNB in General Medicine (recognized qualification).
• DM / DNB in Gastroenterology (mandatory).
• Additional fellowship in advanced endoscopy or hepatology (desirable).

Experience:

• Minimum

  2-5 years

  of post-DM experience in clinical gastroenterology and endoscopy (may vary based on seniority level).
• Experience in managing both OPD and IPD cases.
• Teaching and research experience desirable for academic institutions.
