Job Purpose: To manage and oversee day-to-day customs clearance operations (import and export) ensuring timely and compliant cargo movement for both sea and air freight. The role involves close coordination with clients, customs officials, and internal operations teams to ensure efficient documentation, clearance, and delivery within committed timelines. Key Responsibilities: 1. Customs Documentation & Operations Supervise preparation and submission of Bills of Entry, Shipping Bills, and related documentation through ICEGATE/EDI systems. Verify HS codes, assess duties, and ensure correctness of product classification and valuation as per Customs Tariff. Handle both import and export clearance procedures for LCL/FCL/air shipments. Coordinate with port authorities, CFS, and transporters to ensure cargo release without delay. 2. Coordination & Client Service Serve as the primary contact for clients on customs-related matters. Coordinate with the operations, transport, and accounts teams to ensure end-to-end handling of shipments. Communicate daily clearance status, documentation requirements, and pending issues to clients and management. Liaise with shipping lines, airlines, and other regulatory agencies (DGFT, FSSAI, PQ, etc.). 3. Compliance & Record Management Ensure all customs documentation complies with statutory and company standards. Maintain digital and physical records of customs documents for audits and internal control. Stay updated on the latest customs notifications, EXIM policies, and tariff amendments. Monitor adherence to internal SOPs and identify scope for process improvement. 4. Team Supervision & Training Oversee the performance of documentation staff, customs clerks, and field staff. Guide the team in resolving query memos, assessment issues, and inspection processes. Assist in training and developing staff on customs rules, ICEGATE operations, and document accuracy. 5. Reporting & Coordination with Management Generate daily/weekly MIS on clearance status, shipment turnaround time, and demurrage reports. Provide inputs to management on cost-saving measures, duty structures, and compliance risk areas. Support branch management in meeting KPIs related to customs clearance timelines and client satisfaction. Qualifications & Experience: Graduate in Commerce / Logistics / International Business. Minimum 5–8 years of experience in customs clearance within a freight forwarding or CHA company . Working knowledge of ICEGATE , EDI , and port/airport clearance procedures. Strong understanding of EXIM documentation , valuation , and customs laws . CHA License holder (preferred) or experience under a licensed CHA. Key Skills & Attributes: In depth knowledge of CHA works Excellent coordination and communication skills. High understanding of logistics operations (sea/air freight). Proficiency in MS Office and customs clearance software. Detail-oriented, organized, and proactive in problem-solving. Strong team handling and multitasking ability.
