Job Title: Configuration Specialist Location: Mindspace Hyderabad Mode of work: Night shift (WFO) Duration: FTE Mission/Overview A Configuration Specialist plays a crucial role in managing and overseeing configuration management activities for software, systems, or IT infrastructure. Their responsibilities typically revolve around ensuring that configurations are accurately maintained, version-controlled, and aligned with organizational standards. Below are the key responsibilities for a Senior Configuration Specialist Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience). X+ years of experience in configuration management, systems administration, or related technical fields. Typically, 5-7 years of relevant experience is expected for a senior-level role. Proven experience managing complex system configurations in large-scale environments (e.g., enterprise-level systems, cloud infrastructures). Experience in working with multiple configuration management tools (e.g., Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Terraform) and version control systems (e.g., Git). Certifications in relevant fields such as: ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) AWS Certified Solutions Architect Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) CompTIA Linux+ or similar technical certifications. Advanced knowledge of networking , databases , and security protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, SSL). Strong understanding of Linux/Unix and Windows operating systems, including advanced system administration skills. What you'll be doing: 1. Configuration Management Strategy and Planning Develop and implement configuration management strategies, policies, and procedures to support project or organizational goals. Create and maintain a configuration management plan, defining scope, processes, tools, and workflows for configuration management activities. Ensure alignment of configuration management processes with industry best practices and compliance standards (e.g., ITIL, ISO). 2. Configuration Baseline Creation and Maintenance Establish and maintain configuration baselines for software, hardware, and infrastructure. Ensure that baselines are properly documented and updated as changes occur. Ensure consistency and integrity of the configurations across environments (development, testing, production, etc.). 3. Version Control and Documentation Oversee version control systems and ensure that configurations, code, and documentation are properly tracked and controlled. Ensure that all configuration changes are well-documented, including change requests, approvals, and implementation details. Maintain an up-to-date repository of configuration items (CIs) and related artifacts. 4. Configuration Change Management Manage and review configuration changes, ensuring that changes are assessed, approved, and implemented in a controlled manner. Work closely with project managers, developers, and other stakeholders to assess the impact of configuration changes. Implement change control processes to minimize risks associated with configuration changes and ensure timely updates. 5. Automation and Tool Management Evaluate and implement configuration management tools and automation frameworks (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Terraform). Automate repetitive configuration tasks to improve efficiency and consistency in deployment and maintenance. Ensure the use of appropriate tools for managing configuration versions, environments, and releases. 6. Collaboration with Development and Operations Teams Collaborate with software development, QA, and operations teams to ensure that configuration management practices are integrated into the SDLC (Software Development Lifecycle). Provide guidance on configuration-related issues and support troubleshooting during deployment and production phases. Act as a liaison between technical teams to resolve configuration-related challenges. 7. Audit and Compliance Conduct regular audits of configuration items and changes to ensure compliance with organizational standards, policies, and regulatory requirements. Maintain an audit trail of configuration changes and decisions for accountability and traceability. Support internal and external audits related to configuration management. 8. Risk and Impact Analysis Analyze configuration changes and their potential impact on system stability, security, and performance. Proactively identify and mitigate risks associated with configuration management processes. Provide recommendations on how to improve the overall configuration management lifecycle, based on impact analysis. 9. Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution Provide advanced troubleshooting for configuration-related issues, helping to resolve problems quickly and efficiently. Analyze root causes of configuration failures or errors and provide corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Offer support to other teams (e.g., IT operations, support) in resolving configuration-related incidents. 10. Training and Mentorship Mentor and train junior configuration specialists or team members on best practices, tools, and methodologies. Share knowledge and expertise on configuration management techniques and standards. Lead training sessions and knowledge-sharing initiatives to ensure team proficiency and effectiveness in configuration management practices. 11. Configuration Management Reporting Generate reports and dashboards on configuration status, change history, and audit findings for leadership and stakeholders. Track configuration metrics (e.g., change frequency, configuration drift) to assess performance and identify areas for improvement. Provide insights on configuration trends, challenges, and opportunities for process optimization. 12. Continuous Improvement Continuously evaluate configuration management processes and tools for efficiency improvements. Recommend process enhancements based on feedback from team members, stakeholders, and lessons learned from previous projects. Stay up to date with emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in configuration management. 13. Collaboration with Other IT Disciplines Coordinate with IT security teams to ensure that configurations are secure and comply with security policies. Work with release management teams to ensure that configuration management is integrated with release cycles. Collaborate with infrastructure teams to ensure that hardware configurations and software deployments are properly managed. 14. Support for Software Releases and Deployments Support software deployment and release processes by ensuring that the required configurations are in place and properly maintained. Work with release managers and developers to ensure that configurations align with release schedules and deployment plans.
