The School of Mathematics and Statistics at UNSW is a prestigious institution with a diverse range of research interests in applied and pure mathematics, as well as statistics. As a Research Associate, you will be involved in collaborative and self-directed research on an ARC-funded Discovery Project titled High Dimensional Approximation, Learning, and Uncertainty. The project aims to develop and implement innovative schemes for high-dimensional approximation that are reliable, accurate, fast, and tailored to specific applications. You will work under the guidance of Professor Frances Kuo and Professor Ian Sloan, contributing to various research activities and outputs. Key Responsibilities: - Conduct research in High Dimensional Approximation, Uncertainty Quantification, Deep Learning, and Quasi-Monte Carlo Methods independently and as part of a team. - Lead some areas of the project when opportunities arise. - Contribute to writing scientific papers and reports for international journals. - Assist in coordinating research activities and meeting project milestones. - Participate in conferences and workshops relevant to the project. - Supervise honours and HDR students. - Adhere to the Code of Conduct and Values of UNSW. - Ensure compliance with health and safety policies and procedures. Qualifications and Skills: - PhD in Mathematics, preferably in computational mathematics or related field. - Ability to conduct independent research with limited supervision. - Strong interpersonal and communication skills. - Knowledge in Quasi-Monte Carlo methods, finite element analysis, or machine learning is desirable. - Proficiency in computer programming (Matlab, C++, or Python). - Team player with the ability to collaborate across disciplines. - Commitment to UNSW's values, objectives, and policies. - Understanding of health and safety responsibilities.
