Jobportal DK Videnskabelige stillinger 164284 Associate Professor in Veterinary Microbiology Associate Professor in Veterinary Microbiology Department of Veterinary and Animal sciences Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences University of Copenhagen The University seeks to appoint an Associate Professor to the Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences to commence 1 December 2025. Information on the Department can be found at: https://sund.ku.dk/. The Associate Professor will conduct research on the prevention and control of bacterial infections in animals as well as those caused by zoonotic pathogens infecting humans. The research should contribute new knowledge on routes of transmission, aetiology, mechanisms of persistence, spread, pathogenesis, and diagnostics and prophylaxis. Studies of bacterial pathogens should aim for a holistic approach ranging from molecular aspects over experimental animal models to field studies and involve interactions with hosts as well as the external environment including animal-derived products and waste materials. Additionally, the Associate Professor is expected to actively participate in implementing activities under the Danish Veterinary Consortium hosted by University of Copenhagen and Statens Serum Institut and further develop the field by securing funding for new projects. At the Section for Bacteria and Viruses we offer an inspiring and international microbiological working environment with focus on bacterial and viral pathogens of relevance to humans and animals. We offer BSL1 and BSL2 laboratory facilities as well as supporting facilities needed for state-of-the-art research in microbiology, and we provide opportunities for collaborations with major stakeholders of relevance to the field of veterinary microbiology. Applicants must have university-level teaching experience, documented teaching competencies and the ability to explain and reflect on their teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen´s teacher training program for assistant professors is required. Teaching responsibilities will include veterinary microbiology (both theoretical and practical exercises), meat inspection, poultry diseases, and veterinary public health, e.g. in courses and cases in the new veterinary curriculum. Applicants must document qualifications in these areas. Duties include the applicant’s own research, development of the field, assessment tasks, grant applications, and research management such as supervision and training of research fellows and other staff.
