You will be joining Motorola Solutions as a Backup Lead Engineer, responsible for managing and architecting a group of backup administrators and overseeing global backup and recovery operations. Your role will involve ensuring a highly available, reliable, serviceable, secure, and efficient environment for internal customers. You will serve as the subject matter expert for global backups and recovery environments, maintaining a project-oriented approach while focusing on standards, next-generation architecture, solution improvements, and cost analysis. Key responsibilities include overseeing and managing all backup and recovery operations, proactively identifying and mitigating risks, serving as a company subject matter expert, guiding technical staff, driving projects and initiatives, providing expert support and analysis, ensuring operating standards and procedures are adhered to, identifying opportunities for infrastructure and process improvements, delivering technology evaluations and solution proposals, and defining and delivering capacity planning analysis and monthly reporting. To be successful in this role, you should have at least 5+ years of experience in a high technical level position, with 2+ years of experience leading a global team of backup administrators. You should have a deep understanding of commercial backup offerings of major vendors, experience in providing data protection for databases such as SQL Server and Oracle, strong communication skills, problem-solving abilities, experience in creating processes and procedural documentation, and the flexibility to work in a multi-cloud environment. Desirable skills include understanding long-term archive storage solutions, experience with ITIL Service Design, developing and maintaining solution roadmaps, and defining backup/recovery processes. As a candidate, you will be responsible for the availability of MSI Data protection, updating standards and procedures, and leading towards providing a reliable, high availability, cost-effective, secured, and efficient systems for our internal clients and applications. Operating environments include AWS Cloud, OCI Cloud, GCP, and on-premise systems using Linux/Windows, bare metal servers, VMware, and other virtual environments. Responsibilities and Role: As the service owner, you will be accountable for the backup operations, continual improvement, cost and vendor management to ensure a highly available, reliable, serviceable, secure, and efficient environment for our internal customers. Key duties and responsibilities include: - Overseeing and managing all backup and recovery operations, proactively identifying and mitigating risks while capitalizing on opportunities. - Serving as the company subject matter expert for global backups and recovery environments. - Maintaining a project-oriented approach while focusing on standards, next-generation architecture, solution improvements, and cost analysis. - Advising on technology trends and standards. - Guiding technical staff on assignments to achieve desired outcomes and deliverables. - Driving projects and initiatives with backup admins and internal customers. - Providing expert support and analysis of complex problems including 3rd level support and guidance to the support staff. - Ensuring operating standards and procedures are defined and adhered to by others. - Identifying opportunities for infrastructure and process improvements. - Delivering technology evaluations and solution proposals (on M&A). - Defining and delivering capacity planning analysis and monthly reporting. Basic Requirements: Essential Skills/Abilities: - 5+ years of experience in a high technical level position for the specified requirements. - Experience and skills to lead a global team of backup administrators. - In-depth understanding of commercial backup offerings of major vendors in on-prem and Cloud environments. - Experience in providing data protection for databases such as SQL Server and Oracle. - Strong written and verbal English communication skills. - Experience in creating processes and procedural documentation. - Exceptional problem-solving skills. - Providing in-depth investigations and root cause analysis of incidents and outages. - Providing strategic direction and ensuring the delivery of technical-based projects. - Flexible approach to working hours in a global organization. - Experience in Multi-cloud environment backups. Desirable Skills/Abilities (but Not Essential): - Understanding long-term archive storage solutions available within Data Centres and major cloud providers. - Familiarity with ITIL Service Design. - Developing and maintaining solution roadmaps. - Involvement in defining backup/recovery processes and supporting audit requirements.
