Job Description for Chemist – Steel Melting Shop (SID Unit):

Expire​nce: 2 – 6 Years (Steel / Ferro Alloys / Sponge Iron industry preferred)
Qualification: B.Sc. / M.Sc. in Chemistry

Job Summary:

We are looking for a qualified Chemist to manage and perform chemical testing, sampling, and analysis of raw materials, intermediate products, and finished steel within the Steel Melting Shop (SID Unit). The role ensures adherence to quality standards, process control, and supports production with timely test results.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct chemical analysis of raw materials (iron ore, coal, fluxes, ferro alloys, etc.) and finished steel.
• Test samples from different process stages in SID (hot metal, steel, slag, etc.) to monitor quality.
• Operate laboratory instruments such as Spectrometer, Carbon-Sulphur Analyzer, and other analytical equipment.
• Ensure accuracy, precision, and timely reporting of test results to production and quality teams.
• Maintain laboratory records, calibration logs, and testing documentation.
• Assist in process improvement by monitoring chemical compositions and suggesting corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with BIS/ISO standards and internal quality guidelines.
• Handle safe storage, disposal of chemicals, and maintain workplace safety protocols.
• Work closely with production, QC, and process engineers to ensure desired steel grades are achieved.

Skills & Competencies:

• Strong knowledge of analytical chemistry and metallurgical testing.
• Hands-on experience with spectrometers, CS analyzer, and wet chemistry methods.
• Good knowledge of steel plant processes (SID / SMS).
• Attention to detail, accuracy, and problem-solving ability.
• Ability to work in a high-pressure, production-driven environment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
