Support plant technical teams in developing laboratory capabilities, specifically on sample preparation and equipment related to sample preparation for material characterization and testing. Job Context & Major Challenges Job Context: As Hindalco downstream business is undertaking a multi-fold expansion, HIC Semifab is also undergoing a significant expansion. As part of the expansion there is a need to enhance the current infrastructure including R&D laboratories. Ambitions of downstream businesses necessitate a bigger and better laboratory infrastructure for carrying out R&D activities that will support both internal and external customers. The incumbent will provide functional lead to all activities that require sample preparation and metallograpy services. The incumbent will also support strategic and CPS projects for development of new products and process. The incumbent will coordinate all activities connected with the characterization labs including the upkeep and maintenance of all the laboratory assets. The major challenges associated with the job include coordinating requirements of different stakeholders and ensuring satisfaction of internal or external customers simultaneously. Key Result Areas 1. Sample Preparation, Characterization and Testing Prepare samples for metallurgical investigations in optical and electron microscopes. Preparation techniques include cutting, mounting, polishing and electrochemical etching. Operate optical and scanning electron microscopes for imaging, elemental analysis and phase identification. Ability to operate uniaxial tensile testing equipment and carry out tests for determining alloy strength and ductility. 2. Coordinate the activities of laboratories Serve as coordinator for activities within the characterization and testing labs. Coordinate and balance the workload of the team by prioritizing and distributing ATS requests from plant units. Actively maintain database of characterization and testing work carried out within the lab. Provide support to R&D projects.
