Cellular 5G/4G Firmware Development & Verification Engineer

As a Cellular 5G/4G Firmware Verification Engineer at Apple, you will be an integral part of the embedded 5G/4G multimode cellular firmware team within a silicon design group. Your role involves crafting and productizing cutting-edge cellular SoCs, pushing the boundaries of technology and innovation. You will collaborate with a diverse group of professionals to create and execute firmware verification test cases, ensuring the performance and reliability of our wireless systems. Key Responsibilities: - Collaborate with component validation, integration, protocol test engineers, firmware developers, and system engineers to develop firmware verification test cases and enhance physical layer performance. - Design and implement validation frameworks for 4G/5G firmware, including test case creation, execution, and issue analysis. - Develop test automation for 4G/5G UEs, test simulators, and gNodeBs, ensuring efficient verification of key protocols and algorithms within strict time, latency, and energy constraints. - Validate new and existing features in collaboration with Systems and Firmware teams. - Assist in the development of pre-silicon emulation systems and virtual platforms for firmware design and hardware verification. - Evaluate and integrate cutting-edge tools for build, formal verification, and testing processes. Key Qualifications: - Profound knowledge of 5G and 4G 3GPP physical layer and protocol stack procedures. - Experience in planning, designing, and developing firmware test cases for functional and performance scenarios in 4G/5G environments. - Proficiency in automation tools and scripting languages such as Python, C/C++, and Java (additional languages are a plus). - Strong familiarity with 4G/5G signaling and physical layer test equipment (Keysight/Anritsu/R&S) and their automation interfaces. - Excellent analytical and debugging skills to identify and resolve issues in collaboration with firmware development and systems design teams. - Sound understanding of software engineering principles, computer science fundamentals, build tools, and source code control. - Willingness to learn new architectures, frameworks, and technologies, with experience in network emulators, silicon prototyping, emulation systems, and virtual platforms being advantageous. Education & Experience: - Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field is required for this position.
