Location: Bengaluru, India Experience: Minimum 5 years Industry: Lithium-Ion Batteries, Fast Charging, Energy Storage Employment Type: Full-time About the Role We are seeking a highly skilled Electrochemical Battery Research Engineer to lead advanced research on lithium-ion battery degradation, SEI formation, and lithium plating , with a focus on fast charging at 4C rates . This role involves analyzing lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells (cylindrical and prismatic), conducting Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), and optimizing charging strategies for extended battery life and high performance. You will work closely with battery scientists, electrical engineers, and data analysts to design experiments, interpret electrochemical data, and develop strategies to mitigate aging effects in LFP cells under extreme charging conditions. Key Responsibilities Electrochemical Testing & Analysis • Conduct Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), cyclic voltammetry (CV), and galvanostatic charge-discharge tests to study degradation. • Analyze SEI formation, lithium plating, and internal resistance evolution in LFP cells under fast charging. • Perform capacity fade analysis and impedance growth modeling over multiple charge-discharge cycles. • Develop new fast-charging protocols to optimize performance and reduce cell degradation. Battery Characterization & Failure Analysis • Perform post-mortem cell teardown and microscopy analysis to study degradation mechanisms. • Use X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Raman spectroscopy to analyze electrode materials. • Investigate thermal effects in high-C-rate charging and propose cooling strategies for prismatic and cylindrical LFP cells. Data Analysis & Modeling • Interpret impedance spectroscopy data to correlate internal changes with performance loss. • Work with machine learning models to predict long-term battery aging and cycle life . • Collaborate with data scientists to process large datasets and extract meaningful degradation patterns. Collaboration & Reporting • Work with electrical engineers to integrate findings into battery management systems (BMS) for real-time monitoring. • Coordinate with materials scientists to improve anode and cathode performance under high-C-rate cycling. • Publish research findings in internal reports, whitepapers, and industry conferences . Required Skills & Qualifications Education • Masters or Ph.D. in Electrochemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Energy Storage, or a related field . Technical Skills • Expertise in EIS, CV, and battery cycling tests (Gamry, BioLogic, Solartron, or similar tools). • Strong knowledge of LFP cell chemistry , degradation pathways, and SEI layer dynamics. • Experience with cell balancing, thermal management, and impedance spectroscopy interpretation . • Hands-on experience with cylindrical and prismatic LFP cells . • Familiarity with XRD, SEM, and Raman spectroscopy for battery material characterization. • Knowledge of BMS algorithms, fast-charging strategies, and power electronics integration . • Experience in AI/machine learning models for battery life prediction (preferred but not mandatory). Soft Skills • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving abilities. • Attention to detail for precise electrochemical measurements. • Ability to work in a cross-functional team (scientists, engineers, data analysts). • Strong documentation and reporting skills . Preferred Experience • Minimum 5 years in battery research, electrochemistry, or a related field. • Experience working with fast-charging protocols (3C to 6C) in lithium-ion batteries . • Background in EV batteries, energy storage, or cell manufacturing is a plus.
