Cath Lab Staff Nurse

Job Description:

Patient Preparation and Care:

• Pre-Procedure Preparation

  : Assess and prepare patients for procedures, explaining the process and answering questions to reduce anxiety.

• Vital Signs Monitoring

  : Monitor and record vital signs (heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen levels) before, during, and after the procedure.

• Patient History and Assessment

  : Conduct assessments to ensure the patients medical history is reviewed and all necessary tests have been performed prior to the procedure.

• Administer Medications

  : Administer prescribed medications, including sedation, pain relief, and pre-procedure drugs as directed by the cardiologist or attending physician.

Assisting During Procedures:

• Assist in the Cath Lab

  : Work alongside cardiologists and Cath Lab technicians during procedures such as angiograms, angioplasties, stent placements, and other interventions.

• Monitor Patient Status

  : Continuously monitor the patients vital signs and electrocardiogram (ECG) throughout the procedure, responding to changes as needed.

• Sedation and Anesthesia Assistance

  : Assist with sedation and ensure the patient is comfortable during the procedure, managing any reactions or complications that may arise.

Post-Procedure Care:

• Post-Procedure Monitoring

  : Monitor patients in the recovery area after the procedure for any complications, including bleeding, infection, or reactions to medications.

• Patient Education

  : Provide post-procedure instructions and educate patients on aftercare, such as activity restrictions, medication management, and follow-up appointments.

• Discharge Preparation

  : Ensure patients are stable and meet discharge criteria, assist with preparing them for discharge, and communicate follow-up care instructions to patients and families.

Patient Advocacy and Support:

• Emotional Support

  : Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and families, addressing concerns and ensuring a calm and supportive environment.

• Advocate for Patient Safety

  : Ensure that patient safety is maintained at all times, including compliance with infection control protocols, monitoring for adverse reactions, and preventing complications.

Collaboration and Teamwork:

• Collaborate with the Healthcare Team

  : Work closely with cardiologists, Cath Lab technicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a smooth and effective procedure.

• Communication

  : Maintain clear and consistent communication with the medical team and the patients family about the status of the procedure, any potential complications, and patient needs.

Documentation and Reporting:

• Accurate Record-Keeping

  : Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including procedure details, medications administered, vital signs, and any changes in the patient’s condition.

• Compliance with Policies

  : Ensure that all nursing care is documented in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.

Sterilization and Infection Control:

• Sterile Techniques

  : Ensure proper sterile techniques are followed during procedures to minimize the risk of infection.

• Equipment Maintenance

  : Assist in preparing the Cath Lab and ensuring that all necessary tools and equipment are sterilized, functioning, and ready for use.
