Preparation of Operating Room : The Cardiac OT Technician is responsible for preparing the operating room before cardiac surgical procedures. This includes ensuring that all necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies are sterile, functional, and readily available for use. Assistance During Surgery : During cardiac surgery, the Cardiac OT Technician assists the surgical team by handing instruments and supplies to the surgeon and other members of the team as needed. They also help with positioning the patient, draping the surgical field, and maintaining a sterile environment throughout the procedure. Operating Room Management : The Cardiac OT Technician helps manage the operating room environment, ensuring that it is organized, clean, and well - maintained. They monitor equipment functionality, troubleshoot any issues that arise during surgery, and assist with equipment setup and breakdown. Patient Monitoring : They assist in patient monitoring during cardiac surgery, including monitoring vital signs, electrocardiogram (ECG) readings, and oxygen saturation levels. They communicate any changes in the patient's condition to the surgical team promptly. Sterilization and Infection Control : Cardiac OT Technicians are responsible for adhering to strict sterilization and infection control protocols to prevent the spread of infections in the operating room. They ensure that all surgical instruments and equipment are properly sterilized and maintained according to hospital policies and regulatory standards. Assistance with Emergencies : In the event of an emergency during surgery, such as cardiac arrest or hemorrhage, the Cardiac OT Technician assists the surgical team in implementing emergency protocols and providing life - saving interventions as directed by the surgeon. Documentation and Record - keeping : They maintain accurate records of surgical procedures, including instrument counts, patient information, and surgical supplies used. They also assist in completing surgical documentation and reports as required by hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
