Knowledge, Environmental Stewardship Specialist Purpose & Overall Relevance for the Organization: The environmental specialist is responsible for the local coordination of the Sustainable Chemical Management (SCM) program and execution of the environmental strategy, which contains carbon emissions and water usage as well. The objective of the SCM and Environmental program is to develop management capabilities, with a focus on chemicals management, climate change, wastewater, and water usage of strategic processing facilities (fabric mills/dye houses, laundries, and printers) in C&A's supply chain. Key Responsibilities: • Co-ordinate the implementation of the Sustainable Chemicals Management Program across the countr,y including trainings, verifications, wastewater testing, performance tracking and corrective action plan management (initial focus on hazardous chemicals, gradually expanding to water consumption, water pollution, and energy consumption) • Provide regular progress reports on the status of chemical management and environmental performance Key Performance Indicators • Provide practical recommendations on how to improve the environmental performance of C&A's supply chain leading to the elimination of hazardous chemicals. • Support supply chain traceability in coordination with cross-functional departments • Engage in capacity-building activities with the wet processing facilities to drive environmental performan forward. • Support factories to implement agreed carbon and water reduction targets • Manage relationships with local 3rd-party verification and testing service providers as well as local /global consultants on specific projects. • Co-ordinate environmental activities with the local/global Sourcing team, collaborating to drive improvements in C&A supply chain • Work with the local Quality team to support on any RSL and related MRSL issues to ensure chemical compliance of final products • Frequent domestic travel is required. Key Relationships: • Social Supply Chain Team (SSC) • Quality • Sourcing • Verification bodies, other external stakeholders, knowledge, skills, and abilities: • Strong chemical and technical textile manufacturing knowledge is essential. • Prior experience reducing environmental impacts up the supply chain, particularly in Manufacturing of textiles • Knowledge and experience of carbon reduction opportunities and possibilities in the supply chain • Observant and very attentive to details • Strong team player • Knowledge on programs leading the elimination of hazardous chemicals in the supply chain • Excellent communication & training skills, time management/project management skills • Excellent assessment and report writing/reviewing skills in English and in the relevant local language(s) • Strong analytical skills, demonstrating self-reliance with a go-getter attitude and ability to structure work efficiently • Knowledge of sustainability best practices in textile manufacturing and RSL/MRSL implementation. • Can act independently while keeping close alignment with the environmental team. • Good command of both spoken and written English required. • High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Requisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications: • Education in chemistry (preferred), environmental engineering, textile engineering • 3+ years of working experience, in environmental auditing or in manufacturing processes at /fabric mill/ dye house
