Your responsibilities will include monitoring wires, scanners, press releases, and tip lines for breaking news and emerging stories. Collaborating closely with producers and assignment editors, you will assist in prioritizing coverage and planning story logistics. It will be your responsibility to verify story leads, gather initial facts, and support producers and anchors in creating accurate news scripts. Managing live feeds, press conference streams, and video elements for newscasts integration will also fall under your purview. You will work in tandem with the control room and technical directors to ensure the readiness of live elements for broadcast. Keeping the editorial team updated on developing stories and resource availability throughout the day is crucial. Your contribution to editorial meetings and the pitching of story ideas will be valuable in shaping the news coverage. To succeed in this role, you should possess a solid understanding of television broadcast workflows and newsroom operations. Strong editorial instincts, a dedication to accuracy, and journalistic integrity are essential qualities. Proficiency in newsroom management systems like Avid, iNews, and field communication tools is expected. The ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and adapt swiftly in breaking news scenarios is imperative.
