Job description Job Purpose: The Shift Mechanical Engineer is responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems and equipment within the smelter plant. The role ensures the mechanical equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with plant standards and regulations during their assigned shifts. Key Responsibilities: Operational Support: Ensure that all mechanical equipment and systems in the smelter plant operate efficiently and meet safety standards. Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve mechanical failures and issues in plant machinery, including pumps, conveyors, motors, compressors, and other mechanical systems. Preventive Maintenance: Implement and follow preventive maintenance schedules for mechanical systems and equipment to minimize downtime and maximize plant efficiency. Repair and Overhaul: Supervise the repair, overhaul, and installation of mechanical systems and components as needed. Shift Supervision: Oversee mechanical maintenance activities during the shift and ensure that work is carried out according to safety standards and operational procedures. Safety Compliance: Ensure that all safety procedures and protocols are strictly adhered to, including lockout/tagout procedures, personal protective equipment (PPE) usage, and adherence to environmental and regulatory standards. Reporting & Documentation: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repair logs, spare parts usage, and shift performance. Provide detailed reports on equipment status and any incidents during the shift. Collaboration with Teams: Work closely with electrical, instrumentation, and production teams to ensure seamless operations and quick resolution of any issues. Process Optimization: Propose improvements to the mechanical processes to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance reliability. Training and Mentoring: Assist in the training and development of junior mechanical engineers and maintenance technicians.
