Role & responsibilities Responsible for the safe, comfortable and comprehensive nursing care for all patients under her/his care. Orient new Patient to the unit Responsible to perform all procedures as per hospital policies and protocols. Provide a safe and clean environment for the patients. Demonstrate skill in patient assessment, rounds, capturing and carrying out doctors orders, documentation, & equipment handling. Follow infection control policies and biomedical waste management guidelines. To be well groomed, punctual & adhere to company policies and practices. Coordinate patient care with various health care team members Carryout doctor’s orders and instructions promptly and intelligently. Before administering medication to patients make sure to take the proper precautions that each medication requires in order to avoid reactions and complications for e.g. Check blood sugar before administering Insulin and keep food ready. Check B/P before administering Anti-hypertensive medication, Make double checks before administering Narcotic drugs, High alert medication and blood transfusions. Make sure a second nurse is present while preparing and administering them. Observe changes in patient’s condition take necessary action, report and record. Responsible to impart special care and precautions to vulnerable patients. Impart health education to the patients as per their diagnosis and requirement. Responsible to maintain infection control practices during nursing care to the patients. Take equipment and drug inventory on daily basis and maintain records accordingly. Maintain good interpersonal relationship with nurse administrators, senior staff, juniors and students. Attend In-service education programmes in order to update knowledge and keep abreast of changes and trends in health and nursing care. Must be well versed with computers and the HIS Assist physicians in performing various diagnostic and treatment procedures. Participate in team conferences with team leader and make up team assignments. Perform patient care within the principles of Nursing, reporting pertinent observations or complaints to the team leader and/or Incharge. Collaborate and co-ordinate care with other health professionals to ensure a quality service. Communicate effectively, positively and courteously with patients and the health care team. Resolve problems and conflicts effectively using organizational structures and processes. Undertake a comprehensive and accurate nursing assessment of patients using suitable assessment tools underpinned by evidenced based knowledge. Take appropriate nursing actions in emergency situations and other situations that compromise patient safety. Ensuring that ventilators, monitors and other types of medical equipment function properly. Collaborating with fellow members of the critical care team. Providing education and support to patient families. Critical care nurses may also care for pre- and post-operative patients. Uphold the nursing code of ethics and acts as a role model to other staff members. Ensure adherence to accreditation protocols and best infection control practices Report all complaints, incidents or accidents to the nurse in charge of the in-charge or supervisor Act as a staff nurse/ shift in-charge as necessary. Give and receive Day/Night Reports. Assist and participates in the departmental professional development programme. Act as a mentor for new staff, and participate in their induction programme. Take every opportunity to maintain and improve knowledge and Competence and take steps to keep up to date with clinical and nursing Developments. Apart from the above duties and responsibilities carry out any other duties assigned to her by the Nurse In-charge & Nursing Supervisor. Preferred candidate profile
