Job Purpose:

The Head of Veterinary Sciences will lead BBRCs in vivo research operations within a 50,000 sq. ft. AAALAC-accredited facility, supporting diverse, multi-modality therapeutic and functional areas. This leadership role will report to BMS Veterinary Sciences leadership and is accountable locally to the Head of Site Operations serving as a key member of the BBRC Operations Leadership Team. The ideal candidate brings deep veterinary expertise, operational excellence, and a commitment to team development and scientific integrity.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the Veterinary Sciences BBRC function, ensuring high-quality support for in vivo pharmacology, DMPK, toxicology, and translational research.

Serve as a senior member of the Operations Leadership Team, collaborating with global stakeholders to align strategies across R&D sites.

Accountable for alignment with BMS veterinary sciences practices and standards and the associated support of therapeutic area teams to facilitate cutting age research with innovation, speed and quality

Develop long term strategy in developing capabilities and capacity in support of BMS drug discovery portfolio

Lead, coach, and develop a multidisciplinary team to meet departmental objectives.Build a culture of excellence, collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning in the team.

Oversee all local aspects of veterinary care, animal welfare, and vivarium operations, ensuring compliance with international regulations (AAALAC, CPCSEA, IAEC) and BMS standards

Capable as acting or overseeing the Attending Veterinarian and contributing to institutional animal ethics committees (IAEC/IACUC).

Drive excellence in animal care practices internally and with external CRO partners.

Champion a culture of ethical responsibility, scientific rigor, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Promote the 3Rs (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement) and foster a strong Culture of Care.

Develop and implement SOPs, training programs, and performance metrics.

Collaborate with research, quality assurance, facilities, safety, and security teams.

Provide veterinary input to study design, protocol development, and regulatory submissions.

Travel domestically and internationally as required.

Technical/functional Skills:

Expertise across multiple species used in pharmaceutical research

Strategic and operational acumen in managing vivarium and veterinary functions

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a track record of cross-functional collaboration

Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies is a plus

Experience with innovative facility design or vivarium integration is desirable

Ability to manage multiple projects with resilience, accountability, and emotional intelligence

Preferred Attributes:

Operational leadership of multi-site or global veterinary functions

Scientific innovation in developing or refining in vivo disease models

Passion for ethical research, leadership, and high-performing team development

Education Qualification:

PhD in Veterinary Science is a plus

Board certification in Laboratory Animal Medicine (e.g., ACLAM, ECLAM, ICLAM) or equivalent professional experience is preferred.

Eligibility for veterinary licensure in India

Experience:

15+ years in laboratory animal medicine, with leadership roles in pharmaceutical or research settings

Proven success leading multidisciplinary teams in a global R&D environment

Experience in both GLP and non-GLP studies; involvement in IND/CTA-enabling programs is advantageous

Strong knowledge of global regulatory and accreditation frameworks (AAALAC, CPCSEA, OLAW, EU Directive 2010/63)
