A service engineer for an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of UPS systems to ensure continuous power for critical equipment. The role often involves field service, requiring travel to customer sites such as data centers, hospitals, and industrial facilities to perform hands-on work and provide technical support. Roles and responsibilities Installation and commissioning: Install, configure, and test new UPS systems and related equipment, such as batteries, automatic transfer switches (ATS), and power distribution units (PDUs). Preventive and corrective maintenance: Conduct routine inspections, testing, and preventive maintenance on AC and DC power systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability. Respond to service calls and perform on-site repairs and maintenance for both scheduled and unscheduled issues. Troubleshooting and repair: Diagnose technical issues with UPS systems using diagnostic tools and software. Identify and rectify equipment failures, faulty components, and battery problems. Customer support and training: Provide technical support to clients via phone or on-site visits. Train customers on the proper operation and maintenance of UPS systems. Documentation and reporting: Maintain accurate records of all service activities, including maintenance logs, repair reports, and customer interactions. Field operations and safety: Adhere to all safety standards and best practices when working with high-voltage electrical equipment. Manage repair parts inventory and tools. Client relations: Coordinate with clients, sales partners, and managers to address customer needs and resolve issues. Build and maintain strong customer relationships. System upgrades and recommendations: Develop upgrade plans, recommend appropriate UPS solutions to meet customer power requirements, and assist with system modifications. Qualifications and skills Education: A diploma or ITI in Electrical or Electronics Engineering is often required. Experience: Previous experience as a service engineer in the UPS industry, including working with single and three-phase systems, is typically preferred. Technical knowledge: Strong understanding of electrical and electronic systems, including power distribution, battery technologies (e.g., Li-ion, lead-acid), and AC/DC systems. Troubleshooting: Proven ability to diagnose and solve complex technical problems. Customer service: A strong, customer-focused attitude and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Analytical skills: Ability to interpret electrical schematics and technical documentation. Self-motivated: The ability to work independently and manage time effectively, especially for field service tasks. Physical requirements: Willingness and ability to travel to customer sites and perform hands-on work with equipment. A valid driver's license may be required.
