Role Summary
Your principal role will be the day-to-day project management, responsible for leading and delivering various resources and UK schemes.
You will be functioning as a technical specialist who develops and applies advanced engineering concepts and approaches to unique engineering problems. You will seek innovation in the delivery of schemes and techniques used to design them.
You will be active on a number of projects at any given time. You will be supported by a team of experienced and developing technical staff of various grades, to whom you will be expected to provide guidance and support as appropriate.
- You will be responsible for ensuring your projects are delivered to the budget, programme and technical standards and meet QA, CDM, Sustainability and HSE requirements.
- You will be involved in internal client liaison, financial control of projects, recruitments, business development activities and production of fee proposals.
- You will Manage processes to ensure technical issues and risks are resolved in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- You will contribute to our Lean approach to driving efficiency and removing waste from our processes.
- You will be guiding, supervising and directing all team members in technical and project management matters to ensure the effective delivery of projects whilst aiding the technical/professional development of the team.
- You will have direct line management, including mentoring and managing early career professionals ensuring technical excellence is in everything we deliver.
- You will provide the required assistance to the discipline head to produce periodic reports, such as project performance, forecast utilisation and workload.
- You will be helping maintain the culture and positive working environment in the team.
Responsibilities
- An experienced candidate with in-depth experience in Junctions Capacity Modelling (Junctions 9/ LinSig), Traffic Signals Design, Preliminary and concept road layout design is required to join our established Transport Planning team which serves the UK private development and public sector markets. The UK Development transport team offers clients a wide range of multi-disciplinary services including transport modelling of local junctions and signalised networks, pedestrians and regional / strategic transport systems. The wider team also undertakes development planning work involving site appraisals, transport assessments, master planning, public transport studies and public consultation.
- Quality checks of data and model outputs.
- Research and review design options for both technical and economic impact.
- Support Project Managers for on time completion of tasks assigned and to WSP's expected standards.
- Support team members in maintaining healthy contact with different UK offices for modelling and/ or Transport Planning tasks.
- Ensure that Health & Safety is embedded into all work practices in line with company policies.
- Clear communication (verbal and written) with colleagues in India and the UK on all matters project related technical communication and day-to-day matters.
- Work within project constraints, such as time, budget and resource; and
- Attend and Lead/ contribute in team and project meetings.
- Key Competencies / Skills
- Understanding of Transport Planning and Design General principles.
- Experience in Biding proposal and fee proposals
- Understanding of software's theories and limitations.
- Experience of having worked on Junctions 9 & LinSig.
- Prepare 2500 documentation and experienced in supporting Signals Specifications
- Experience of AutoCAD; Vehicle Tracking.
- Experience in Key SIGNALS.
- An understanding of the necessity to work within prescribed timeline and budget constraints.
- Good understanding MS Office applications with focus on Word and Excel; and
- Good written and spoken English and track record of writing technical reports.
- Demonstrate experience of successfully leading a team and managing stakeholders.
- Able to lead teams and help with the operational management of a team of up to 15 staff.
- Demonstrate experience of resource and project management
- Aware of current and emerging technologies relevant to the sector.
- Experience of liaison with clients, co-professionals and design team
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Effective time management and strong organizational skills.
Desired Skills
- Understanding of fundamental modelling and design techniques, traffic signals operation and CAD standards, including modelling guidelines and CD / Local authority codes and standards.
- Previous experience and capability in Junction modelling, swept path analysis, parking design, signals and junction improvement scheme
- Paper presented at / published in recognized / internal journal(s)/ conference(s) will be highly desirable.
Qualifications
- BEng /BTech in Civil Engineering preferably Masters/MEng/ MTech on Highways/ Traffic engineering with a minimum of 11 years experience in the field of Highways/ Transportation.
- Member or working towards associated Professional body membership.
- It is mandatory to have 5 years of working experience on UK projects.
- Minimum 5 years working experience on international projects including UK experience.
