Ascendia is recruiting an experienced Part-Time Mechanical Engineer for a reputed UK engineering consultancy. We are seeking an engineer with expertise in mechanical systems for water utilities , particularly pumping stations and treatment works , with additional experience in gas utility mechanical systems being highly desirable. This remote role involves full responsibility for design and CAD production , and includes project management and client-facing responsibilities. Key Responsibilities Lead the mechanical engineering design of pumping stations , treatment works , and pipeline infrastructure for water utilities, with optional involvement in gas utility systems . Deliver feasibility , conceptual , and detailed design stages of mechanical systems for water and gas utility projects. Prepare risk registers , technical reports , and other project documentation according to UK industry standards. Attend and lead client meetings , maintaining strong communication and project coordination. Independently produce and manage mechanical CAD drawings and layouts using AutoCAD (proficiency is mandatory). Ensure all mechanical designs and CAD outputs comply with relevant UK water and gas utility standards and health & safety requirements . Essential Requirements Education : Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s preferred). Experience : Minimum 5-6 years post-graduate experience in mechanical design for water and/or gas utility infrastructure projects. Technical Skills : Solid background in mechanical design for water pumping stations , treatment plants , and related mechanical systems. Experience with gas utilities , including pressure reduction stations , governors , and associated mechanical systems, is highly desirable. CAD Proficiency : Mandatory proficiency in AutoCAD , with the ability to independently develop mechanical engineering drawings and layouts . Communication : Excellent spoken English for client-facing roles and team collaboration. Strong written English for producing reports, specifications, and technical documents.
