You will work to establish strong relationships with business partners to understand the problems they are trying to solve and work to implement the best-suited analytics solutions. Build predictive models using advanced analytics techniques including text analytics and machine learning. Develop powerful insights and tools using a variety of analytical techniques and technologies. Support the implementation of the analytics solutions that you develop Establish robust monitoring processes for implemented solutions and provide regular feedback to business partners Collaborate in cross-functional teams and share ideas to solve complex business problems. Discover, explore, and analyze internal and external datasets for the purpose of developing robust analytics solutions. Guide, support, mentor and develop the growing team of predictive modelers and data scientists Advance the analytics team practices, processes, and documentation and continue to enhance existing tools and infrastructure in partnership with the data engineering, implementation engineering, data visualization, and data science teams Required Skills/Experience 6+ years’ experience in analytics role in P/C insurance, preferably commercial lines. Detailed understanding of statistical theory, predictive modeling, data mining and other advanced analytical techniques. Strong SQL and Python skills are a must. Experience with other technical tools such as R and visualization tools such as Power BI is a plus Proven hands-on experience developing machine learning models in a claim setting: decision trees, clustering, text mining, random forests, survival analysis, etc. Track record of delivering significant business value from small or non-standard data sets. Data analytics experience in mining, analyzing, and interpreting data through various statistical techniques. Evidence of analytical skills, problem solving, business acumen, and strong critical thinking. Excellent verbal and written communications skills; ability to convey complex concepts to people across the organization. Exceptional teamwork skills required to play a key role in cross-functional teams. Ability to collaborate and build trusting relationships with business partners. Desired Skills/Experience P&C insurance claim experience, including knowledge and understanding of property and casualty products. Experience with Claim models supporting TPA driven operating model. Experience developing models in cloud-based tools in Azure such as Databricks, Snowflake, Github. Experience with cloud-based model deployment via MLOps Experience prompt engineering and evaluating results of LLMs Proficiency in BI Tools (e.g. Power BI) P/C commercial lines experience. Position Summary: The Underwriter role is responsible for driving profitable growth through the evaluation and underwriting of new and renewal accounts. This position involves close collaboration with producers to negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions, while proactively managing capacity and ensuring compliance with governance frameworks and underwriting guidelines. Can be hybrid in our Boston or Hartford office or work remote in the New England states plus upstate New York. This is a market-facing so expected to be meeting with brokers in the territory. Responsibilities and Accountabilities: Underwrite Profitable business Underwrite new and renewal accounts to meet top and bottom line targets Negotiate price and terms and conditions with producers Proactively manage capacity Underwrite and evaluate Natural Catastrophe Accumulation, ensuring an understanding of catastrophe modeling and interpretation of scenarios for relevant Lines of Business (LoB's) Underwriting Approach and Compliance Underwrite in line with LoB governance framework - e.g. Underwriting Authorities, Underwriting Guidelines, Rules and Principles Ensure contract certainty is achieved on all accounts at time of inception Ensure utilization of global pricing tools Ensure placing and binding of FAC Reinsurance prior to policy inception Policy Documentation and Administration Ensure accurate policy documentation issued to producers or producers has issued documentation (where producer responsibility) File maintenance – ensure file is established (whether electronic or paper) and maintained for each risk and transaction handled Proactively support completion of policy administration and credit control processes Contribute to development and execution of regional Underwriting strategy for LoB regionally Training, developing and coaching of less experienced staff (including Underwriters) Education and Experience: A minimum of 3+ years of direct experience in underwriting profitable business Specialized expert understanding of sub-LoB products and portfolio Recognized relationships with brokers at peer group level and well established within market Specialized understanding of regional / local LoB insurance markets and competitor landscape, including global elements Preferably a degree in Economics, Finance, Insurance Management, or Business Administration Professional insurance qualification (e.g. CPCU) is a plus #LI-AM3 #LI-Remote #LI-Hybrid For individuals assigned or hired to work in the location(s) indicated below, the base salary range is provided.
