Looking for a metallurgy engineer who focuses on optimizing and managing the smelting operations, particularly in alloy cast irons alloy steel making and ferroalloy production using electric arc furnaces (DC -EAFs) with new technologies of Plasma Adoption in the pilot scale using waste materials like RED MUD OR ILLMENITE and other ores and waste materials. This role involves understanding and improving the entire furnace operation cycle, from charging raw materials to tapping the final product, ensuring efficiency, quality, and safety. Process Optimization: Monitoring and improving the efficiency, output, and safety of manufacturing processes by observing, collecting, and interpreting data. This includes optimizing melt rates, power consumption, and slag foaming for better energy efficiency and sidewall protection. Material Balance and Control: Developing and maintaining material balance models, especially for processes like steel refining in DC-EAFs, and ensuring accurate material inputs and outputs. Troubleshooting and Problem Solving: Identifying and resolving issues within the production process, including equipment malfunctions or quality deviations. Equipment Knowledge: Understanding the operation and maintenance of DC arc furnaces, including electrodes, charging systems, and molten bath dynamics . Quality Control: Working with quality control teams to ensure process materials meet specifications and to address any quality problems. Documentation and Training: Creating and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and training other personnel. Typical DC Arc Furnace Process Stages: A process engineer for an arc furnace will be familiar with the six stages of the DC electric arc furnace steelmaking process: 1.furnace repair, 4. Oxidation 2.charging, 5. Reduction 3.melting, 6. Tapping Required Skills and Experience: metallurgical processes and smelting environments. Thermodynamics, and chemical reactions that are involved in DC electric arc furnace Proficiency in production processes and equipment fault detection. knowledge on equipment, electricals, diodes, hydraulics and cooling circuits Collaboration and Innovation: Work collaboratively with other engineers, production teams, and maintenance teams to ensure smooth operation, integrate new processes and technologies, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. In the context of electric arc furnace (DC-EAF) operations, a smelter process engineer's role is particularly focused on maximizing the furnace's performance, which involves enhancing operational efficiency, minimizing costs, and reducing environmental impact. This includes: Scrap Analysis and Optimization: analyze scrap composition, detect impurities, and optimize charging to ensure product quality and efficient processing. Electrode Monitoring and Management: Monitoring electrode wear, identifying hotspots with infrared cameras, and implementing predictive maintenance to extend electrode lifespan and prevent unplanned downtime. Refractory Lining Inspection and Maintenance: Regularly inspecting the refractory lining ,using infrared cameras to detect wear, identify hotspots, and provide warnings of potential breakouts, enabling timely maintenance and enhancing safety. Energy Optimization: Analyzing and optimizing energy efficiency, including power supply and oxygen supply systems, to reduce energy consumption, shorten smelting cycles, and lower operational costs
