Role Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically robust Lithium Battery Assembly Engineer to lead, optimize and ensure the quality of the assembly process of lithium battery modules and packs. The role involves hands-on engineering work, process design, quality control, collaboration with R&D, and continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities : Design, develop, and document assembly processes for lithium battery cells, modules, and packs, ensuring they meet safety, performance, and manufacturing efficiency criteria. Develop/implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions, process flow charts, and assembly jigs/fixtures. Oversee and optimize cell interconnection (welding / tabbing), module assembly, module testing, pack integration, battery management system (BMS) integration. Select appropriate materials, adhesives, insulators, cooling mechanisms; ensure all components used are compliant with relevant safety and quality standards. Conduct risk analysis (e.g. thermal runaway, mechanical stresses, electrical stability) and incorporate mitigation methods in assembly design. Monitor and improve assembly yields; troubleshoot manufacturing defects or failures; perform root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions. Collaborate with R&D, quality engineering, procurement, supply chain, and testing teams to validate prototypes, test batches, and scale up to mass production. Ensure compliance with regulatory & safety standards (UN-38.3, IEC 62133, UL, etc.), environmental and health & safety norms. Maintain documentation for traceability (batch history, component sourcing, manufacturing parameters). Train assembly operators, oversee shop floor implementation of processes, ensure hygiene, safety, and clean room / controlled environment protocols (if applicable). Continuously evaluate new tools, equipment, technologies, and assembly methodologies to improve cost, time, safety, and product performance. Required Qualifications & Skills Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Prior experience (1+ years) in lithium battery assembly / manufacturing / energy storage systems. Strong knowledge of lithium battery technologies (cell types, chemistry, form factors), battery module/pack architecture. Hands-on experience with welding/tabbing, spot welding / laser welding, ultrasonic welding, sealing, potting, adhesives, insulation materials. Understanding of BMS (Battery Management System) integration, test & measurement equipment. Proficiency in drafting SOPs, process documentation, and quality tools like FMEA, root cause analysis, statistical process control. Familiar with safety / regulatory standards relevant to lithium batteries (IEC, UL, UN38.3, etc.). Familiarity with clean room / controlled environment assembly, hazard assessment, safe handling of chemicals / cells. Strong problem-solving skills; attention to detail. Good communication skills; ability to coordinate among cross-functional teams. Desirable Attributes Experience scaling from prototype to high volume production. Experience using automated / semi-automated assembly equipment. Knowledge of thermal management, mechanical enclosure design. Familiarity with quality certification processes (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, etc.). Lean manufacturing / Six Sigma or similar continuous improvement experience.
