As a Home Assistant Programmer / Automation Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining smart home automation solutions using Home Assistant (HASS) and related technologies. Your role will involve leveraging your strong programming skills and hands-on IoT/automation experience to integrate multiple devices, protocols, and systems into a seamless smart environment. Your key responsibilities will include: - Designing & Developing: Configuring and customizing Home Assistant dashboards (Lovelace) for intuitive user experiences, writing and maintaining YAML, Jinja2 templates, and automations, developing Python scripts, Node-RED flows, or AppDaemon apps to extend functionality, and building custom integrations via REST API, MQTT, Zigbee, Z-Wave, etc. - System Integration: Integrating lighting, HVAC, security, audio/video, energy management, and IoT devices into Home Assistant, ensuring compatibility and optimizing performance across multiple vendor ecosystems. - Deployment & Maintenance: Installing and managing Home Assistant OS / Container / Core on Raspberry Pi, NUC, or server environments, monitoring system performance, troubleshooting, and applying regular updates, and implementing secure access (SSL, authentication, backups, recovery plans). - Collaboration & Documentation: Working closely with designers, contractors, and clients to understand smart home requirements, documenting workflows, integrations, and user manuals, and training end-users or support teams on system use and maintenance. Qualifications: - Strong knowledge of Home Assistant architecture, YAML, and Lovelace UI customization. - Proficiency in Python, Node-RED, or AppDaemon for automation scripting. - Experience with IoT protocols (MQTT, Zigbee, Z-Wave, Modbus, etc.). - Familiarity with Linux environments (Docker, CLI, systemd). - Understanding of networking (IP addressing, VLANs, firewalls, Wi-Fi optimization). - Experience integrating third-party APIs and cloud services (Google, Alexa, Apple HomeKit). - Knowledge of home automation best practices (energy efficiency, reliability, security). Preferred Qualifications: - Hands-on experience with audio-visual systems, CCTV, and access control. - Knowledge of BMS (Building Management Systems) and large-scale automation. - Experience with version control (Git) and CI/CD workflows. - Familiarity with HACS custom cards, advanced dashboards, and UX design.,
