The company excels in delivering custom-designed machinery with micron-level accuracy using advanced technologies such as CNC machines and EDM. Known for its rigorous quality control and inspection processes, Anjali T Precision ensures reliable, high-performance solutions. Its customer-centric approach and exceptional after-sales support make it a trusted partner in precision engineering. JOB DESCRIPTION: 1. Position Overview: The Quality In-Process Engineer (Grinding Machining) plays a critical role in ensuring that all grinding-machined components meet the strict quality, precision, and reliability standards required by the organization and its customers. This role is responsible for overseeing quality assurance activities directly on the shop floor, focusing specifically on OD/ID grinding, cylindrical grinding, centerless grinding, and surface grinding operations. The engineer will monitor process stability, verify dimensional accuracy, support machine operators, and ensure strict conformance to drawings, specifications, and control plans. The position requires a practical understanding of grinding processes, strong metrology skills, and the ability to react quickly to quality issues, preventing deviations from reaching subsequent operations or customers. This role functions as the primary link between manufacturing, quality, and engineering teams and ensures that machining processes remain capable, repeatable, and continuously improved. 2. Key Responsibilities 2.1 In-Process Quality Control & Inspection • Conduct thorough in-process inspection of all grinding-machined components, ensuring adherence to drawing tolerances, GD&T requirements, and customer specifications. • Perform checks on critical dimensions including diameter, runout, concentricity, cylindricity, taper, flatness, and surface roughness. • Use precision instruments such as micrometers, bore gauges, air gauges, height gauges, V-blocks, dial indicators, slip gauges, and surface testers with high accuracy and repeatability. • Verify surface finish using roughness testers and detect grinding-related anomalies like chatter marks, burn marks, micro-cracks, and under/over-size conditions. • Conduct first-piece inspection, setup approval, and validation of process parameters at the start of every shift or batch. • Ensure proper documentation of inspection results and communicate deviations immediately to production leaders. 2.2 Monitoring of Grinding Processes • Monitor machine parameters such as wheel speed, feed rate, depth of cut, dressing frequency, coolant conditions, wheel wear, and ensure they align with validated process specifications. • Identify process drifts early through continuous monitoring and ensure corrective actions are implemented before defects occur. • Maintain inspection checkpoints and update control plans and reaction plans when required. • Support operators during changeovers, new setups, or complex grinding operations. 2.3 Process Capability & Data Analysis • Maintain and analyse Cp, Cpk, Pp, Ppk values for key characteristics and ensure processes remain statistically capable. • Collect and analyse SPC data, interpret control charts, and take timely action for out-of control (OOC) conditions. • Support MSA (Measurement System Analysis) activities including Gauge R&R, repeatability, and reproducibility checks. • Prepare weekly and monthly quality performance reports, highlighting trends, deviations, root causes, and improvement opportunities. 2.4 Defect Management & Corrective Actions • Identify defects related to grinding processes such as: Chatter marks, burn marks, scratches, taper, ovality, lobing, size variation, and poor surface finish. • Initiate and manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), ensuring immediate containment and segregation of non-conforming parts. • Work closely with production and engineering to conduct root cause analysis using 5 Why, Fishbone (Ishikawa), Pareto analysis, and other structured problem-solving methods. • Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) and verify long-term effectiveness. 2.5 Documentation & Quality System Compliance • Ensure strict adherence to ISO 9001 / IATF 16949 requirements for documentation, traceability, and process control. • Maintain up-to-date records including in-process inspection sheets, control plans, work instructions, and checklists. • Support internal and external audits (customer audits, system audits, process audits). • Participate in updating quality documents based on engineering change notes (ECNs), customer revisions, or process improvements. 2.6 Cross-Functional Collaboration & Support • Collaborate with production supervisors, tool room engineers, and maintenance teams to ensure grinding processes perform consistently and efficiently. • Provide technical feedback on grinding wheel selection, dressing conditions, coolant optimization, and holding/fixturing arrangements. • Assist in trial runs, validation of new components, and capability studies for new development projects. • Contribute to continuous improvement activities such as Kaizen, Poka-Yoke development, SMED improvements, and Lean Manufacturing initiatives. 3. Required Technical Skills • Strong expertise in grinding machining processes: OD/ID grinding, cylindrical, centreless, surface grinding. • Deep understanding of engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerances, and fitments. • Hands-on experience with precision measurement instruments and dimensional inspection methods. • Familiarity with SPC, MSA, PPAP processes, and problem-solving methodologies. • Basic understanding of metallurgy, heat treatment effects, and material properties affecting machinability and grinding performance. 4. Required Behavioural Competencies • Strong analytical approach and problem-solving mindset. • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and discipline in documentation. • Effective communication skills for clarity in cross-functional discussions. • Ability to work under pressure during production peaks or quality issues. • Commitment to continuous improvement and a proactive work approach. 5. Qualifications & Experience • Diploma / BE in Mechanical, Production, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent technical education. • 2–5 years of hands-on experience in quality assurance or process engineering within a grinding-based precision manufacturing environment. • Experience in automotive, aerospace, hydraulic components, or high-precision machining industries is highly preferred. 6.
