The Layout Artist is responsible for the story-telling, shot sequence continuity, and presentation as part of the VFX pipeline for feature film and/or high-level television. Utilizing assets from the modeling department and/or camera track from the matchmove department, you create a rough pass of the shot as a whole as well as packages necessary components for use in later departments. While camera animation and composition is the main objective, you may be required to create simple animation, lighting, and FX in order to convey key story points. Key Responsibilities Work under the direction of the Animation Supervisors and Animation Leads to create high quality animation Work with other animators and supervisors to identify and solve problems, both technically and artistically Liaise with other production team members to ensure production deadlines are met Minimum Qualifications Minimum of five (5) years of live action production experience Knowledge of Maya (required) Nuke, 3Ds Max (a plus) Must have a strong sense of animation basics, acting, staging, posing, weight, timing and storytelling, as well as staying on model Strong understanding of the language of the camera; framing, perspective, lenses, coverage, continuity, camera movement, blocking, etc. A good attitude and ability to smoothly change and adapt with the project Background or experience in fine arts, which shows a thorough understanding of physical motion, weight, and balance Knowledge of human and animal anatomy as well as life drawing skills is desirable Ability to debug technical problems and follow up for assistance if required Experience working with mocap Preferred Qualifications Degree and/or Diploma in Animation or related field (preferred) or equivalent experience Previs experience a plus About Us Scanline VFX is an award-winning leader in the visual effects industry with 8 studios worldwide, including London, Los Angeles, Montreal, Munich (will cease to operate by year's end), Seoul, Mumbai and Vancouver.
