To provide optimum quality of effective and efficient Emergency care within the contract resources available to the Hospital. To actively participate in the teaching and training of junior doctors and allied healthcare professionals. To take part in the general activities of consultants at the hospital teaching, clinical governance, administration, management and so forth. This will be done by personal development into appropriate roles depending on the consultants’ particular interests and aptitudes. To support and develop innovative improvements within the department and the hospital in order to maintain and improve the quality of patient care. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES: To contribute to the development of excellence in Clinical practice through research, audit and undergraduate and postgraduate training. To assist in the development and further expansion of the Critical Care services in hospital in its aim to be a major provider of Emergency services. To take responsibility for the professional supervision and development of trainee paediatricians within the specialty. This will include appraisal of junior doctors. Responsible for the clinical care of critically ill patients admitted to ICU according to generally accepted standards To develop and maintain good communications with general practitioners and appropriate external agencies.
