As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer specializing in Machine Design in the Space Technology industry, you will be responsible for developing configurations and designing spacecraft components. Your tasks will include performing engineering hand calculations and analysis to size structures and mechanisms, as well as selecting materials for aerospace component designs. Utilizing your technical expertise, you will execute structural sizing, mechanism design, hardware fabrication, and functional tests to ensure project deliverables are met. Additionally, you will liaise with component fabricators to ensure timely delivery and address any design or fabrication modifications that may be needed. Your role will also involve conducting non-conformance analysis, generating snag reports, creating assembly procedure documents, test plans, and test procedure documents. You will independently oversee the fabrication of composite structures at vendor sites, implement configuration control and process control measures, and document these processes accordingly. To qualify for this position, you should hold a Bachelor's degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering and have at least 5 years of professional experience in designing, analyzing, and realizing aerospace or mechanical structures. Proficiency in FEA software such as Ansys or Abaqus, as well as CAD software like Solidworks or Autodesk Inventor, is essential. Preferred skills and experience include designing and testing mechanisms, applying GD&T, FEA of composite structures, managing CAD models and drawings, and possessing a strong understanding of structural dynamics and space tribology.
