As a Ruby on Rails Software Engineer at Axioned, you will be responsible for crafting, enhancing, and managing scalable and high-performance web applications and APIs for our diverse international clients. This role necessitates adept problem-solving abilities, a profound comprehension of backend engineering principles, and close collaboration with various teams including frontend developers, UX/UI designers, DevOps engineers, and QA specialists. Your tasks will involve developing custom web applications and backend services utilizing Ruby on Rails (RoR) for clients in the USA and UK. Emphasis will be placed on implementing the MVC architecture effectively to ensure clean codebases, adhering to best practices and coding standards for writing reusable and secure code. Furthermore, you will work extensively with ActiveRecord ORM for database management, encompassing associations, validations, scopes, and callbacks. Responsibilities also include designing and implementing database schemas, optimizing queries for performance, and ensuring data integrity aligned with application-specific business logic. In the realm of API development and integration, you will construct and maintain RESTful APIs using tools like Jbuilder or Design, focusing on building JSON response structures optimized for seamless integration with frontend frameworks such as React and Next.js. An additional focus area includes ensuring API security, versioning, and performance optimization for enhanced user experience. Additionally, you will be tasked with integrating authentication and authorization mechanisms like Devise, JWT, or session-based strategies, handling CORS configurations, implementing secure communication protocols, and optimizing background job processing using frameworks like Sidekiq, Delayed Job, or Async Job to cater to high-performance workloads. Your role will also encompass writing and maintaining RSpec tests for unit, integration, and functional testing to uphold code reliability and minimize regression risk. Collaborating with peers for code reviews and working closely with QA teams to ensure bug-free releases will be integral to your responsibilities. Moreover, you will be involved in streamlining application workflows by creating and organizing Rake tasks, collaborating through Git-based workflows, and ensuring smooth CI/CD pipelines and deployments in conjunction with DevOps teams. Required qualifications for this role include a minimum of 3 years of professional experience in Ruby on Rails development, a strong understanding of MVC architecture and software design principles, proficiency in ActiveRecord ORM and relational database design, expertise in building REST APIs, familiarity with background processing frameworks, experience with RSpec testing, knowledge of authentication/authorization mechanisms, and a grasp of CORS policies, security best practices, and API access control.
