The Role

We&aposre seeking a talented 2D Animation Artist to join our creative team and bring our mobile game characters and worlds to life. You&aposll work closely with our game designers, artists, and developers to create smooth, expressive animations that enhance gameplay and delight our players across iOS and Android platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Animation & Visual Design

• Create high-quality 2D character animations including idle states, walk cycles, combat sequences, and emotional expressions
• Design and animate UI elements, particle effects, and environmental animations optimized for mobile devices
• Develop animation systems that work seamlessly within mobile game engines (Unity, Unreal, or proprietary tools)
• Ensure all animations meet mobile performance requirements and file size constraints

Collaboration & Iteration

• Partner with game designers to translate gameplay mechanics into compelling visual animations
• Work closely with technical artists to implement animations efficiently in-engine
• Participate in rapid prototyping and iteration cycles typical of startup environments
• Provide creative input on character design, art style, and overall visual direction

Quality & Optimization

• Optimize animations for various mobile devices and screen resolutions
• Maintain consistent art style and quality across all animated assets
• Create animation documentation and style guides for team reference
• Test animations across different mobile platforms to ensure smooth performance

Required Qualifications

• Proficiency in industry-standard animation software (After Effects, Spine, DragonBones, or similar)
• Strong understanding of animation principles: timing, spacing, anticipation, squash & stretch
• Experience with sprite-based animation and mobile optimization techniques
• Portfolio demonstrating character animation, UI animation, and effects work
• Basic understanding of mobile game development pipelines and constraints

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience at a gaming startup or small development team
• Knowledge of Unity or Unreal Engine animation systems, AESPRITES
• Familiarity with mobile game monetization and user engagement principles
• Experience with frame-by-frame animation and rigged character animation
• Understanding of mobile UI/UX design principles
• Background in illustration or concept art
