As an Interior Design Intern, your role will involve assisting and supporting interior designers in various aspects of their work. You will have the opportunity to gain practical experience and learn about the industry while contributing to the design process. You will assist in creating design concepts and developing space plans for residential or commercial projects. This may include producing sketches, renderings, or digital models to visualize design ideas. Additionally, you will help research and source materials, finishes, furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E) for projects, staying up-to-date with design trends and product knowledge. Your responsibilities will also include preparing design documentation, creating detailed drawings, construction documents, and specifications using computer-aided design (CAD) software or other design tools. Client interaction will be part of your role, where you may participate in meetings to gather project requirements, present design concepts, and receive feedback. Strong communication and presentation skills are essential for this aspect of the job. Analyzing and optimizing space utilization, creating furniture layouts, determining traffic flow, and ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations will also be part of your tasks. Collaboration with the design team, including interior designers, architects, contractors, and suppliers, is crucial for successful project delivery. Effective teamwork and coordination are key elements in this role. You may accompany designers on site visits to assess project progress, take measurements, and review construction quality, gaining hands-on experience and understanding of the implementation phase. Maintaining project files, material samples, and other documentation, organizing design libraries and catalogs, and staying informed about the latest trends, materials, and techniques in interior design are also part of your responsibilities.
