Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled VKS (Tanzu) Resident Engineer to join our team onsite in Pune, India. The ideal candidate will be an expert in VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) and VMware Kubernetes Service (VKS, formerly Tanzu) environments, focusing on supporting day-2 operations. This role involves hands-on technical support, troubleshooting, optimization, and collaboration with internal teams to ensure smooth ongoing operations of containerized workloads and cloud infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert-level support for day-2 operations in VCF and VKS (Tanzu) environments, including monitoring, scaling, patching, and performance tuning.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to Kubernetes clusters, container orchestration, networking, storage, and security within VKS platforms.
- Collaborate with development, operations, and infrastructure teams to implement best practices for container lifecycle management, CI/CD pipelines, and multi-cloud integrations.
- Perform regular health checks, capacity planning, and upgrades for VCF-based deployments to minimize downtime and ensure high availability.
- Develop and maintain documentation, runbooks, and automation scripts for operational efficiency.
- Assist in incident response, root cause analysis, and proactive problem management.
- Mentor junior team members and provide knowledge transfer on VKS and VCF technologies.
- Ensure compliance with security standards, including RBAC, network policies, and vulnerability management in Kubernetes environments.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Proven experience (5+ years) in managing VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) and VMware Kubernetes Service (VKS/Tanzu) in production environments.
- Strong expertise in Kubernetes concepts, including pods, services, deployments, Helm charts, and operators.
- Hands-on experience with day-2 operations such as cluster scaling, logging (e.g., ELK stack or Fluentd), monitoring (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana), and backup/restore solutions.
- Proficiency in VMware technologies, including vSphere, NSX, vSAN, and integration with Tanzu Kubernetes Grid (TKG) or Tanzu Mission Control (TMC).
- Solid understanding of container networking (CNI plugins like Calico, Antrea), storage (CSI drivers), and security (e.g., Harbor, Tanzu Guardrails).
- Experience with automation tools like Ansible, Terraform, or Kubernetes operators for infrastructure as code (IaC).
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced onsite environment.
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- VMware certifications such as VCP (VMware Certified Professional) in Cloud Management and Automation, or Tanzu-specific certifications (e.g., VMware Certified Specialist - Tanzu).
- Experience with hybrid/multi-cloud environments, including AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud integrations with VKS.
- Knowledge of DevOps practices, GitOps (e.g., ArgoCD), and microservices architecture.
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks like GDPR, HIPAA, or SOC 2 in containerized setups.
