JOB DESCRIPTION – JUNIOR SAFETY OFFICER Department: Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Industry: Petroleum / Oil & Gas Position Level: Junior / Entry-Level (with prior field experience) Location: VDH AROCHEM LLP, KHASRA NO 711-728, VILL KAKRANA TEHSIL DHAULANA DIST HAPUR STATE: UTTAR PRADESH Reporting To: Safety Officer / HSE Manager 1. Job Objective To assist in implementing and maintaining safety standards, procedures, and regulatory compliance to ensure a safe work environment in petroleum operations, reduce risks, and support HSE activities across the plant/site. 2. Key Responsibilities A. Safety Audits & Inspections - Conduct routine site safety inspections in process areas, storage yards, tank farms, and loading/unloading zones. - Monitor compliance with HSE rules, PPE usage, and safe work practices. - Identify unsafe conditions/acts and report them for corrective action. B. Permit to Work (PTW) System - Assist in issuing, reviewing, and closing work permits such as Hot Work, Confined Space Entry, Height Work, Electrical Isolation, etc. - Ensure proper gas testing and area safety checks before work begins. C. Emergency Preparedness - Participate in emergency drills (fire, spill, explosion scenarios). - Ensure availability and proper functioning of fire-fighting equipment, SCBA, hydrants, safety showers, etc. - Support emergency response team activities. D. Training & Awareness - Assist in conducting toolbox talks (TBTs), safety inductions, and job safety trainings. - Educate workers on handling flammable materials, hazardous chemicals, and refinery/plant risks. E. Incident Reporting - Report near misses, unsafe conditions, first-aid cases, and incidents promptly. - Assist in basic incident investigation and follow-up of corrective actions. F. Documentation & Compliance - Maintain safety registers, records, inspection checklists, and compliance logs. - Support ISO, OISD, PESO, and statutory safety documentation requirements. - Ensure MSDS availability and understanding in work zones. G. Hazard Control & Monitoring - Monitor gas/vapour levels in hazardous zones using gas detectors. - Support HIRA/JSA preparation for critical activities. - Verify housekeeping and safe operational practices in high-risk petroleum operations. 3. Required Skills & Competencies - Knowledge of petroleum safety standards, OISD guidelines, and hazardous material handling. - Familiar with firefighting systems and emergency response procedures. - Ability to identify hazards and implement preventive measures. - Good communication skills for interacting with workers and contractors. - Basic understanding of safety equipment calibration and testing. - Teamwork and coordination with operations, maintenance, and HSE teams. 4. Qualification & Experience - Education: Diploma / B.Sc / B.Tech with HSE certifications preferred. - Mandatory: Safety certification (NEBOSH / IOSH / Diploma in Industrial Safety or equivalent). - Experience: 1–3 years of safety experience in petroleum, refinery, LPG, LNG, or hydrocarbon industry. 5.
