A typical SmartHome stove saves each family we reach about 9% of their annual income while reducing air pollution. UpEnergy has a 10+ years track record of building projects that overperform expectations in the generation of emissions reductions, and that deliver on our the energy savings promise to our customers. We are one of the largest developers by volume of projects focused poverty alleviation through energy savings and fuel switching. Our team has a collective 50 years of experience and is at the forefront of Paris-era project finance. About the role: UpEnergy is at a time of exciting growth, expanding both in terms of product and geographic portfolio. We seek a Carbon Project officer to manage technical work associated with our existing and new carbon offset projects (GS/VERRA/Article 6 etc..). The Project Officer will be responsible for creating documentation for the approval process of new carbon emissions reduction projects focused on household/institutional products such as efficient cookstoves, water treatment devices and any other distributed technology devices. What the role offers? An opportunity to work in the field at the forefront of improved energy and carbon industry. An opportunity to work on technical documentation and procedures of various carbon market mechanisms including Gold Standard for Global Goals (GS4GG), Article 6 projects and any other carbon mechanism. An opportunity to gain first-hand experience by interacting with product end-users by regular visits panning across different countries where UpEnergy operate. A chance to be part of a fast-paced, supportive and very efficient team Carbon Technical Team. What will be some of your responsibilities? Managing overall project cycle in collaboration with Operation and Data team Preparation of project documents and emission reduction calculation sheets for registration/issuance of carbon credits under various market mechanisms such as Gold Standard (GS4GG), VERRA and any other carbon mechanism. Assist in planning field visits to monitor the implementation of project. Collaborate with other Data and Carbon Operations Team members in one of the Africa country operations to plan logistics for carbon monitoring and verification auditor site visits. Assist in data analysis for carbon monetization. Maintain the work log and calendar of Technical Team. What you should have to succeed at this role? Polished MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, other data analysis tools a bonus. Ability to work in a decentralized, global team; Willingness to travel for monitoring to a country UpEenergy operates. Knowledge or working experience in distributed technologies such as improved cookstove and water filters Knowledge on Kitchen Performance tests (KPTs) and Water boiling tests (WBTs) will be an asset. Basic understanding/ willingness to learn about carbon credits, carbon markets, and clean energy. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; A team player, and a self-starter. Any degree but preferred Energy and Environmental studies with advanced MS Excel skills. Policy Development: Develop and recommend environmental policies and strategies aligned with regulatory frameworks. Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate environmental risks, both internally and externally. Stakeholder Engagement: Advocate for environmental issues, engage with regulatory agencies and other stakeholders, and build relationships with partners. Contract Review: Review contracts and agreements to identify environmental liabilities and ensure compliance. Policy Analysis: Analyze environmental policies and regulations, providing insights for shaping organizational strategies. Research and Monitoring: Stay updated on emerging environmental legislation and trends. Advocacy: Advocate for environmental protection and sustainable practices within the organization and externally. Documentation: Prepare legal and policy documents, briefing materials, and educational materials. Policy Analysis: Analyze environmental policies and regulations, providing insights for shaping organizational strategies. Research and Monitoring: Stay updated on emerging environmental legislation and trends. Advocacy: Advocate for environmental protection and sustainable practices within the organization and externally. Skills and Qualifications: Legal Knowledge: Strong understanding of environmental law and regulations.
