About Position:
Persistent is seeking a highly experienced Azure Architect to lead complex migration projects from On-Prem to Azure. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Azure migration, including discovery, assessment, and execution phases, and will be proficient in designing robust target environments using Azure Landing Zones and the Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF). The architect should be able to work independently, conduct client workshops, and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.

What You'll Do:
Experience in Non-x86 Workload Migrations:
Proven expertise in migrating workloads from non-x86 platforms, including HP-UX and Sun Solaris environments.Legacy Application Assessment:
Ability to evaluate dependencies of legacy applications and recommend a migration strategy to Azure, including effort estimation, timeline planning, and technology mapping.Azure Migration Planning:
Skilled in designing and proposing Azure-based solutions tailored to legacy system requirements.Stakeholder Communication:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage with customer teams, including application owners, architects, and governance stakeholders.
Expertise You'll Bring:
Technical Expertise:
Extensive knowledge of Unix (e.g., AIX, Solaris, HP-UX and Linux (e.g. SUSE, Rocky Linux) operating systems)- Unix Systems Porting Expertise (SunOS, AIX, HP-UX)
- Deep understanding of legacy Unix systems:
- SunOS/Solaris (SPARC)
- AIX (IBM PowerPC)
- HP-UX (PA-RISC or Itanium)
- Experience in identifying and replacing platform-specific system calls, threading models (pthread, thr_create, aix_pthread), and networking APIs.
- libc, libnsl, libsocket, libthread, libaio, libcurses, libX11.
- C/C++ Build Systems & Cross-Platform Compilation
- Make, CMake, Autotools, SCons, Ninja.
- Legacy build tools like XLC (AIX), aCC (HP-UX), Sun Studio (SunOS).
- Refactoring build scripts for GCC/Clang on Linux.
- Handling cross-compilation and architecture transitions (e.g., SPARC x86_64).
- Using pkg-config, ldd, nm, objdump for dependency and symbol resolution.
- Java Modernization & Platform Compatibility
- Experience upgrading legacy Java apps (e.g., Java 1.4/1.5/1.6) to OpenJDK 8/11/17.
- Solaris JVM, IBM J9 (AIX), HP JVM.
- Migrating from Ant to Maven/Gradle.
- Refactoring deprecated APIs and ensuring Linux compatibility.
- Understanding of encoding, file system, and threading differences across platforms.
- Azure Infrastructure & DevOps Automation
- Azure Linux VMs, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Terraform.
- Containerization using Docker, orchestration with AKS.
- CI/CD pipelines for automated build, test, and deployment.
- Familiarity with Helm, Kubernetes networking, and monitoring tools like Azure Monitor.
- Migration Tooling & Code Assessment
- Static and dynamic analysis tools: Cppcheck, Coverity, SonarQube, Valgrind, strace, ltrace.
- Proprietary tools like Sasva (Persistents internal tool for code assessment).
- Automating migration workflows and validating functional equivalence.
- Ability to write scripts (e.g., Bash, Python, PowerShell) to automate build/test/migration steps.
- Bonus Skills (Nice to Have)
- Experience with binary compatibility layers (e.g., libcompat, libbsd).
- Knowledge of legacy UI frameworks (e.g., Motif, XView).
- Familiarity with performance tuning and memory profiling on Linux.
