As a Mail Processor at UCLA, you will play a crucial role in handling internal and US Mail efficiently. Your responsibilities will include collecting, sorting, processing, and distributing various types of mail, such as First Class, Registered, Express, stamped mail, and intra-campus correspondence. Operating University mail processing equipment, maintaining general housekeeping, and engaging in some telephone and public contact activities will also be part of your daily tasks. Under the general direction of the Manager of Mail Services or the Director of Mail Services, you will be expected to complete mail processing duties according to internal guidelines and procedures. To excel in this role, you must possess demonstrated skills, knowledge, and experience in mail processing. Additionally, accurate and moderately fast typing skills are required for inputting data into mail processing and billing systems. A solid understanding of USPS rates, regulations, and their application to mailable items is essential. You should be able to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with colleagues and other employees while performing tasks accurately and timely under changing priorities and deadlines. Physical requirements include frequent walking, standing, bending, and lifting mail weighing up to 50 pounds. Maintaining a clean work area, understanding USPS postal terminology, and basic math skills for arithmetic computations are also necessary. Effective communication with a diverse population, both orally and in writing, is a key aspect of this role. Operating a cash register, handling cash, and providing accurate change for selling USPS mail products and services will be part of your responsibilities. Preferred qualifications include knowledge of the UCLA campus, departments, and Medical Center.
