Role Overview We are seeking a talented, creative, and detail-oriented Website Designer who can design, build, and maintain websites (mainly WordPress & Shopify) with custom design and visual polish. The candidate will work closely with clients, project managers, and developers to understand requirements, propose visual solutions, deliver designs, implement them, customize themes/plugins, and ensure high usability and visual appeal. Key Responsibilities The Website Designer will: 1. Design & Build Websites o Create design mockups, wireframes, user flows, and prototypes according to UI/UX principles. o Develop and integrate website designs into WordPress and Shopify themes, ensuring clean, responsive, mobile-friendly layout. 2. Customize Themes and Plugins o Customize existing WordPress themes, write custom CSS, modify theme templates. o Customize or extend plugins to provide required features or match client needs. 3. Graphic Design & Visual Assets o Create graphics, banners, icons, images using tools such as Photoshop, Canva (or equivalent). o Ensure consistency of visual branding across sitescolours, typography, imagery. 4. UI / UX Design o Design user interfaces that are intuitive, accessible, and engaging. o Conduct basic UX research: understanding target audience, user journeys, usability. o Iteratively refine based on feedback and usability/testing. 5. Client Interaction & Requirement Gathering o Attend client meetings to discuss design briefs, gather requirements, explain design choices. o Translate clients business / functional goals into design deliverables. 6. Quality Assurance & Maintenance o Test designs and implemented websites across different devices, browsers. o Ensure sites are optimized (performance, speed, SEO basics, accessibility). o Provide support as required (bug fixes, minor changes, updates). Required Skills & Competencies To excel in this role, candidate must possess: Skill Area Details / Proficiency Level WordPress- Strong experience designing, developing, customizing WordPress sites; working with themes, child themes, template hierarchy, etc. Customizing Themes & Plugins- Ability to modify or build from scratch; comfortable editing PHP/HTML templates, plugin hooks/filters; good sense of how to adapt existing plugins. Custom CSS- Skilled in responsive CSS, cross-browser compatibility, CSS frameworks if applicable; ability to override and write clean, maintainable CSS. Shopify- Working knowledge of Shopify themes, Liquid templating, Shopify store setup, theme customization. UI / UX- Fundamental understanding of user experience principles; ability to design user-friendly interfaces; knowledge of accessibility / mobile first design. Graphic Designing Tools- Proficiency in Canva and/or Adobe Photoshop (or similar tools) for creating and editing visual assets. General Graphic Design Typography, colour theory, layout, image editing/composition; ability to produce visually compelling designs aligned with brand identity. Requirements Understanding- Ability to take client requirements (verbal or written), interpret them correctly, ask clarifying questions, convert to design specs. Client Meetings & Communication- Confidence and clarity in discussion; explaining design decisions; managing expectations; ability to present work and accept feedback sensitively. Ideal Qualifications & Personal Attributes • Bachelors degree in Design, Computer Science, Multimedia, or related field (or equivalent professional experience). • Portfolio of past website design work (WordPress, Shopify) demonstrating visual design, UI/UX and customization skills. • Strong attention to detail, good aesthetic sense. • Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines. • Problem-solving mindset; resourceful and able to work with constraints. • Open to feedback and continuous learning. • Good communication skills (English), both written and spoken.
