In a media landscape increasingly dominated by corporate monopolies and politically filtered narratives, we aim to counter one-sided coverage with fact-based reporting grounded in real, lived experiences. Our mission is to make sense of unfolding events, policies, and power structures — not from afar, but through local expertise and independent analysis. We focus on providing clear, grounded insight into the political, economic, and social developments shaping the lives of people across different regions — now expanding into India. Position Overview The Red Horizon is expanding its contributor network to include India. We are seeking to collaborate with: Journalists Researchers and Policy Analysts Academics Graduate Students NGO Workers Activists Public Officials eligible to work with international organizations Assignments will be piece-by-piece and project-based, and may include in-depth research, reporting, or fieldwork on specific topics related to developments in India. Contributors are not full-time staff; they are engaged per assignment depending on need and relevance. Each assignment is clearly scoped in advance, and compensation is determined individually based on the complexity and scope of the task. This role is ideal for individuals with deep knowledge of India’s political, policy, and social landscape, and for those who can work independently to produce critical, factual, and timely analysis. Key Responsibilities Investigate and report on political, economic, or policy developments in India Conduct in-depth desk research, fieldwork, interviews, or open-source investigations Produce structured analytical reports with verified information and reliable sourcing Track emerging issues, local trends, or developments that are underreported globally Collaborate with The Red Horizon’s editorial team to define scope and direction Ensure submitted material is accurate, original, and editorially sound In Addition to Published Work We believe that strong journalism is built not only on what is published, but also on the unseen background work that informs it. The Red Horizon places high value on background research and preparatory analysis — not just for specific reports, but to expand our editorial vision and understanding. Contributors may be invited to complete non-published assignments focused on improving the depth, context, and future direction of our coverage. These are also compensated per project. Must-Have Qualifications Strong interest in political, policy, and current developments in India Ability to conduct independent research, analysis, or fieldwork Clear and concise writing skills in English Ability to work remotely, manage deadlines, and take initiative Familiarity with your local/regional context and the ability to interpret its relevance Willingness to work on a per-assignment basis, without fixed hours Preferred Qualifications Experience in journalism, policy research, academia, or NGO project work Proficiency in local languages (in addition to English) Knowledge of data verification tools, OSINT, or analytical methodologies Background in political science, law, international relations, development, or related fields Previous work with international organizations or publications Interest in contributing to both published and non-published editorial research We Also Encourage Applications From: Young, energetic, and self-confident individuals — such as graduate students or early-career professionals — who are deeply engaged with the political and social realities of India and believe they can take on research assignments even without prior professional experience. Compensation & Work Model This is a project-based, freelance role — not a full-time job Assignments are defined individually and paid per project Payment depends on the complexity, scope, and urgency of the assignment Contributors are free to accept or decline offered projects Application Process To apply, please send: A brief introduction about your background and interests Your CV or professional profile (with any relevant work samples) Regions, topics, or sectors in India you are most familiar with Languages spoken Availability and interest in fieldwork or desk research We review applications on a rolling basis and reach out as assignments arise.
