Surgery coder QA

Job Summary

Key Responsibilities

• Accurate Coding:

   Review and analyze surgical reports and other medical records to assign correct ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes.

• Quality Assurance:

   Conduct regular audits of coded data to ensure high accuracy and compliance with industry standards and government regulations.

• Documentation Review:

   Review patient charts to identify any documentation issues or areas for clarification.

• Physician Collaboration:

   Work with surgeons and other medical staff to resolve coding queries and improve documentation.

• Stay Up-to-Date:

   Keep up with the latest coding guidelines, policies, and industry best practices.

• Performance Tracking:

   Prepare reports on coding audits and track quality assurance findings.

• Training & Mentoring (for senior roles):

   Help train and mentor junior coders as needed. 

Qualifications

• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or non Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) is required.
• Proven experience as a Medical Coder, with a focus on surgical procedures.
• Strong knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy, and disease processes.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to analyze complex medical information.
• Proficiency in using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and coding software.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• High school diploma or equivalent is required; a degree is a plus.
